    IT Support Technician II

    Main Objectives

    • To respond to users’ needs for desktop and laptop technical support. The incumbent will be required to provide professional, efficient and accurate responses to enable the staff of the university with their IT needs.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 with 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting and computer problem solving skills
    • Well-rounded expertise and practical knowledge of operating systems, networking and office software
    • Working in a team environment
    • Working in a Windows desktop support environment
    • Working in an IT environment using a ticket tracking system
    • Experience in Google Workspace environment.

    Internal Advert: Supervisor (Central Cleaning Services)

    Main Objectives

    • The Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of staff cleaning all areas within the University falling under Central Cleaning. Including planning, leadership and co-ordination of cleaning services and staff within various buildings, to ensure an efficient and effective cleaning service to all users. 
    • The Supervisor also submits and follows up on all maintenance requisitions of the buildings falling under Central Cleaning, and any other reasonable requests from the Line Manager.

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 with 4 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • Minimum of 3 years’ cleaning experience in an industrial environment where specific hygiene and cleaning practices were implemented
    • Previous administration experience within a computerized environment
    • Previous exposure, of not less than 6 months, of having worked with stock control and basic record keeping
    • Previous experience in having drafted daily schedules and related electronic correspondence
    • At least 2 years’ in a supervisory or team leader position OR be in possession of a 1-year Staff Supervision Certificate plus 1 years’ supervision experience (which doesn’t have to be obtained concurrently)

    Student Services Administrator

    Main Objectives

    • Provides support for computer laboratories for academic teaching and learning. 
    • There are in excess of 15 labs (600 computers) used for academic and student use (essays, email, research etc). 
    • To ensure that the public and departmental laboratories supported by the Information and Technology Services Division (I&TS) are fully functional at all times so that down time is kept to a minimum. 
    • Ensures that all maintenance and user requirements are met - i.e. Academic teaching, conferences, general student use etc.
    • Ensures that all bookings are confirmed correctly for the lecture timetable and examination purposes

    The Requirements

    Grade 12 plus approximately 2 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -

    • At least 2 years’ administrative experience within an electronic environment
    • A demonstrable ability to efficiently diagnose hardware and software problems
    • Well rounded expertise and practical knowledge of operating systems, networking and office software, in particular Desktop software and tools in a Windows and Google Workspace environment.
    • At least one year demonstrating accurate record keeping of assets, or equipment

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor in the History Department

    Main Objectives

    • All academics are responsible for the dissemination of knowledge (teaching and learning), creation of knowledge (research) and community engagement, recognising that there are differences in the execution of these responsibilities within the various departments and Faculties. 
    • Academics are also expected to assume some administrative, management and/or leadership duties at the departmental, Faculty and/or University level. 

    The Requirements

    Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor

    • A PhD in African History or the History of the African diaspora with experience in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: 
    • For post 1: History of Science and Technology Studies OR Marginalisation, Inequality and Redress.  
    • For post 2: Socio-Economic and Environmental History of Africa.

    In both instances, the following would be an added advantage: 

    • historians with a background in archival studies or archival science; expertise in Eastern Cape history; research and teaching expertise in gender, sexuality and women histories.

    Assistant Manager RU Sports

    Main Objectives

    • To assist and support the Head of Sport in driving and executing sport at Rhodes University. 
    • Responsible for providing support to the Head of Sport as well as managing the day-to-day operations within the department.  

    The Requirements

    A relevant NQF Level 7 qualification plus 6 years’ relevant working experience where such experience includes: -

    •  At least 2 to 4 years’ relevant working experience within an education/service-orientated environment in sport and a high level of interaction with students
    • Previous supervision/management experience
    • Experience in administering & organising sport at club/tertiary and/or provincial and/or national level
    • Previous experience in playing sport and/or a demonstrated ongoing interest in sport
    • Previous experience in organising sporting events/ tournaments
    • Basic computer literacy; word-processing, spreadsheets, email and internet
    • Driver’s License Code: EB or code 8
