    Data Analyst

    What will you do?

    The following outcomes will be expected to be achieved by the Data Analyst:

    Data Preparation

    • Acquire data from various data sources and combine & transform data into interpretable datasets, reports or dashboards
    • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
    • Extend the company’s data with third party sources of information when required
    • Process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
    • Perform data profiling of data contained in source systems
    • Provide detailed analysis of all data implemented into the database
    • Provide the data mapping and associated transformation rules for each data item
    • Ensure that the business requirements and subsequent development activities are supported by accurate information. 

    Analysis and Visualisation

    • Interpret data, analyse results using analytical techniques and provide analytical models, reports and/or dashboards
    • Mine and analyse data to drive optimisation and improvement of product development, marketing techniques and business strategies 
    • Select features, building and optimising classifiers using machine learning techniques

    Stakeholder Engagement

    • Work directly with management and other business users to gather requirements, provide status updates, and build relationships

    • Lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to analyse information needs, functional requirements and business processes 
    • Responsible for systems process analysis, design and simulation. Assists in conducting mapping sessions with business units to facilitate process enhancement and change in terms of business strategies. Has reasonable understanding of organisation's business systems. Focus is on process analysis and re-engineering, with an understanding of business and technical problems and solutions as they relate to the current and future business environments. Assists in facilitating quality improvement interventions.

    What will make you successful in this role?
    Qualifications and experience

    • Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree (Information Systems; Statistics; Data or Computer Science; Engineering) or equivalent required
    • 5+ years of experience performing data analysis with proven functional experience in analytics, data visualisation and/or reporting
    • Experience working with Business Intelligence and reporting packages (like SAP Lumira, SAP Web Intelligence)
    • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings for stakeholder use
    • Experience working with data in various data sources and databases (like MS SQL, DB2, Hive, Impala, Teradata, Netezza, File Sources, XML, JSON etc)
    • Ability to translate business requirements into non-technical terms
    • Experience querying databases and using statistical computer languages when managing data: (e.g. R, Python, SQL, etc.) advantageous
    • Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques (e.g. GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, social network analysis, etc.)
    • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques such as clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc. and their real-world advantages and drawbacks.
    • Ability to comply to and manage data assets under strict governance framework
    • Ability to work with data profiling, data quality and reference data toolsets advantageous
    • Experience in agile development advantageous

    Associate Client Relationship Manager (Bellville)

    What will you do?

    Key Responsibilities:

    • The successful applicant will be part of the core, management team and will be responsible with the Strategic Client Relations Manager for the success of the business
    • This management position is responsible for a portfolio of clients. The Associate Client Relations Manager accepts total responsibility for the relationships and administration of the retirement funds within this portfolio (with limited supervision).  The relationships include those with Employer and Member Trustees, Union representatives, Employer HR, Employees, Staff, other Service providers, Consultants etc.

    Trainee Life Underwriter: Graduate Role

    Business Description:

    The Sanlam Individual Life (SIL) New Business Underwriting team plays a pivotal role in ensuring a long-term mutually beneficial relationship between the client and Sanlam.  As a Life Underwriter you will be responsible to analyse the medical and financial risk of our clients.

    Position Description:

    • Through a structured training program, the Trainee Life Underwriter will learn about our underwriting philosophy, business unit products, strategies and options available to our clients.
    • The training will begin by handling renewal business under the supervision of a Life Underwriter and will progress to assess new business cases.
    • The Trainee Life Underwriter will develop critical underwriting skills through classroom, independent and on-the job training.

    Primary duties:

    Trainees will be taught the following underwriting skills:

    • Risk assessment by gathering and reviewing information based on occupation, medical, part-time activities and financials of clients and companies.
    • Assess risk from Personal and/or Business cover.
    • Assessments based on Actuarial mortality.
    • Establish, support and maintain effective relationships with clients.

    Requirements:

    The ideal candidate will desire a position that is both analytical and marketing-orientated and must be in possession of:

    • Matric with Life Science & Mathematics
    • Recent completion of or to be completed in 2022 a Medical qualification (eg. Nursing; Physiotherapy; Radiology) or Financial studies.
    • Applying medical and/or financial studies to:
    • practical evaluation of various risks
    • use medical and/or financial learnings or practical experience in a corporate environment
    • learn other risk factors, related to occupational, part-time hobbies and financial risks.
    • A good understanding of interpreting medical and/or financial information will be advantageous.
