    Data Engineer - Johannesburg

    Job Summary 

    • Help us sort through our massive data set and answer the questions we don’t even know to ask. We have undertaken a large initiative to bring everything into a data lake and want to start surfacing dashboards for our clients/publishers, our business development teams, and our sales teams.

    What your day will look like

    • We have a new set of dashboards we are rolling out against our current data lake. We are looking to extend functionality on these dashboards, taking in input from key stakeholders, as well as review existing data sets and identifying additional opportunities for reporting/visualization.

    What we are looking for

    Must have

    • Familiarity with ETL pipelines
      • Ideally this is with hands-on experience with AWS Athena/Glue, and familiarity with Parquet-based storage systems.
    • Experience in integrating third party data systems, e.g. supplementing, or pairing our existing data with third party data sources to bring in audience demographic data, etc.
    • Possible experience in BI/visualization using products like AWS Quicksight

    Nice to have

    • Specific experience in streaming video, advertising and/or user behavior analysis
    • Experience with ML toolsets for data discovery and enrichment.

    Support Engineer - Johannesburg

    Job Summary

    As a Support Engineer, your primary responsibility is to ensure the optimal functioning of our products by delivering first-level technical support to end-users and internal support team.

    You will actively engage in addressing software-related issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to contribute to product improvement projects and ensuring prompt fault resolution. Additionally, you will actively contribute to projects aimed at improving business functionality and efficiency.

    What your day will look like

    • Provide first-level technical support in an IDE to locate any affected code and suggest solutions for a more senior team member’s review, feedback, and approval.
    • Communicate effectively with internal team members, keeping them informed of issue resolutions and task updates.
    • As time permits, you will work on operational projects in our engineering backlog.

    What we are looking for

    • Proven experience in providing technical support for software products.
    • Root Cause analysis, information design, system evaluation skills.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical issues in a timely manner.
    • Basic understanding of programming languages, with knowledge in languages such as NodeJs, PHP is a plus.
    • Familiarity with software concepts and protocols.
    • Familiarity with common frameworks for preferred languages; Laravel, Drupal, Django, RoR, SailsJS, ReactJS.
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal with proficiency in spoken English.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and across different departments.

    HLS Streaming Developer

    Job Summary,

    We are looking to streamline and optimize our media workflows and how we handle various linear and VOD deliveries.

    What your day will look like

    We have initiatives underway in various areas of technology centered around video streaming. We want someone to take ownership and develop software to improve our deliveries.  Day-to-day work would consist of discovery and close cooperation with our CTO and key stakeholders, participating in proper sprint cycles to achieve organization and engineering goals. Based on skills, we are open to working with the right candidate to define the job.

    What we are looking for

    Must have expertise in one or more of these areas, and ideally passing familiarity with most of these areas:

    • HLS streaming
    • Dynamic manifest manipulation
    • SCTE-35 markers and other inline metadata/signaling (ID3, watermarking, etc)
    • Transcoding and packaging for live/linear and VOD streams
    • CDN delivery strategies
    • QoS/QoE/monitoring and escalation for uptime, stream stability and performance
    • Experience in designing/implementing media processing workflows using Telestream, AWS Media Services, and/or other media workflow automation environments.
    • Low level troubleshooting and validation using tools such as ffmpeg and tsduck
    • Server-side scripting experience– bash, node.js, python, etc.

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that improve system performance.
    • Respond to alerts and incidents, troubleshoot issues, and provide timely resolutions.
    • Assist in planning and implementing configurations for optimal monitoring.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices related to cloud monitoring and implement them as needed.
    • Participate in on-call rotations to address critical incidents outside regular business hours.
    • Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients on system status and issue resolutions.
    • Contribute to the documentation of monitoring processes and best practices.

    What we are looking for

    • Proven experience in supporting cloud-based systems, with a focus on AWS Cloudwatch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, Terraform, Cloudformation.
    • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and infrastructure.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or Shell scripting.
    • Experience with log analysis, metrics collection, and monitoring tools.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently.
    • Certifications in AWS or relevant cloud platforms are a plus.
