    Process Controller Assistance

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for a Process Controller Assistant to undergo structured training to become a competent Process Controller on PM 1 by assisting the Process Controller and completing necessary manuals, obtaining minimum qualification and licences.

    As a Process Controller Assistant, you will be responsible for:

    • Complete structured training by finishing the Process Controller training manual and gaining a thorough understanding of paper manufacturing processes, paper chemistry, best operating practices, and start-up/shut-down procedures.
    • Obtain required licences and certifications, including outside plant licences (Strapline, Winder, Dry End, and Wet End), Lock-out & Isolation, Gas Testing, and Overhead Crane operation.
    • Assist with process operations by performing pre-start inspections, supporting DCS operations, and learning to safely start up and shut down the Wet End in accordance with standard operating procedures.
    • Monitor and control product quality by checking visual and physical paper properties, taking corrective action on quality deviations, and optimizing furnish mixes to meet production requirements.
    • Monitor plant performance by checking process consistencies, comparing results with laboratory data, monitoring felt and wire cleaning, and correcting abnormal process conditions.
    • Report and document operational performance by recording equipment downtime in the OEE system, completing shift exception reports, and communicating equipment defects and abnormal operating conditions to the Shift Superintendent.
    • Participate in shift operations by conducting effective shift handovers, carrying out assigned operational tasks, and supporting production activities to achieve safe and efficient mill performance.
    • Promote SHEQ compliance by identifying and correcting safety hazards, conducting Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS) observations, and maintaining high housekeeping standards in the workplace.Maintain high housekeeping standards and conduct behavioural safety observations (BBS) to support a safe, efficient, and well-organised workplace.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Grade 12) with Maths & Physical Science or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
    • Minimum 3 years KLB experience.
    • A relevant NQF Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one, will be advantageous.
    • Outside Operator licence.

    TCS Admin Clerk MPU

    We are hiring!

    • We’re on the lookout for a TCS Admin Clerk based in Mpumalanga to ensure all aspects regarding timber deliveries into Ngodwana and Ngodwana Energy and the Administration of contractual rates are effectively managed.

    As a TCS admin Clerk, you will be responsible for:

    • Ensure source activations are created timeously in TCS for printing of own timber labels for continuous supply of timber to the mill
    • Ensure that the master data between SAP and TCS is always in sync
    • Generate monthly invoices from TCS and send to Ngodwana and Ngodwana Biofuel for confirmation that both Forests and Ngodwana are in balance for both tons and rand value
    • Import/capture mill deliveries into TCS and balance with files received from the Mill to ensure all tons are uploaded in TCS
    • Check and file all Ngodwana and Ngodwana biofuel Weighbridge tickets and investigate any errors and follow up
    • Ensure all sales are recorded by collating information received from external sources to ensure real time information and compliance to credit policy 
    • Ensure source activations received from operational staff are accurately and timeously activated to avoid any delays in label printing and/or sales updates
    • Perform quarterly audits at sawmill markets by checking sales submitted against supporting documents to ensure validity of information
    • Create all new suppliers submitted by Resources department in SAP and TCS systems to enable source activation creation and printing of labels
    • Maintain and update all contractual rates in TCS
    • Assist with Annual Internal and SABS audits to ensure compliance with FSC standards and requirements 

    What are we looking for?

    • Grade 12.
    • Financial Diploma or Financial degree.
    • 2 to 3 years relevant experience.
    • TCS & SAP experience would be advantageous.
    • Advanced excel skills.
    • Valid drivers license.

    Maintenance Engineer (Woodyard)

    • We’re on the lookout for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to supply competent and cost-effective maintenance and engineering support, service, advice, solutions and techniques to maximise plant production in a safe and legally compliant manner.

    As a Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for:

    • Ensure the maintenance team’s compliance with all SHEQ policies, procedures, best practices and work instructions
    • Provide guidance to the team, perform inspections, and maintain records
    • Ensure that work permit requirements are understood by all team members and stringently adhered to
    • Actively guide and monitor the team on the correct isolation and lockout procedures when performing maintenance work
    • Participate in Plant Safety Committee meetings
    • Participate in the development of Safe Work Procedures for the section and perform Critical Task Analyses
    • Perform the targeted number of Planned Job Observations
    • Support ISO9000 (Quality Management System), ISO14001 (Environmental Management Standards), ISO50001 (Energy Management System) and OHSAS18000 (Health and Safety Management System) for engineering in the section. Educate the team on the requirements and monitor adherence to standards, policies, procedures and work instructions
    • Actively drive the use of plant reliability monitoring techniques to ensure proactive maintenance and reduce unplanned downtime
    • Manage equipment uptime through fast response and repairs of plant breakdowns
    • Monitor frequency and modes of equipment failures, breakdowns, accidents and overtime. Drive root cause analysis. Suggest changes to processes and equipment to prevent recurrence
    • Manage projects for equipment renewals and capital projects on time and within budget
    • Participate in daily production multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings to agree on work focus areas and to resolve plant problems as part of the team. Actively build relationships with production teams and encourage team members to do the same
    • Recommend what work should be outsourced to third-party maintenance contractors and what can be done in-house
    • Conduct studies on new equipment, perform equipment inspections at vendor sites and interact with other industry players to determine whether the equipment would be suited for use in Sappi
    • Log all activities using the SAP system and use system reports for upwards reporting and monitoring
    • Chair monthly workshop forums. Escalate major concerns to the maintenance manager
    • Ensure plant compliance with legal and regulatory requirements by informing teams of the requirements and conducting regular reviews
    • Guide all plant modifications in line with policies and procedures
    • Participate in the maintenance budgeting process on an annual basis. Provide input on the requirements for the section under control
    • Monitor actual expenses against budget every month. Explain over- or under-spending to the Maintenance Manager
    • Approve purchase requisitions and invoices as per the delegated mandate. Refer items above mandate to the Maintenance Manager for approval
    • Participate in the 5-year capital planning process
    • Continuously identify cost-effective design or plant changes that could improve equipment and operational costs in the long term. This could include changes to maintenance schedules, parts and equipment. Prepare the business cases and present for approval before implementing
    • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly maintenance reports using system and qualitative data
    • Provide weekly feedback to the Maintenance Manager on overall plant performance, unresolved engineering problems and cost control
    • Oversee the recruitment, recognition, performance management, remuneration, development and discipline of the section’s maintenance team
    • Take direct responsibility for the development of direct reports
    • Provide on-the-job coaching to the technicians and artisans in the team. Develop their ability to do predictive maintenance and problem-solving

    What are we looking for?

    • Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (heavy or light current), while B Tech or BSc/BEng in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering will be considered advantageous 
    • Government Certificate of Competency (Factories) will be considered advantageous 
    • 7 years’ maintenance experience in heavy industry
    • Some supervision experience will be considered advantageous

    As a Process Controller in Training-Energy, you will be responsible for:

    • Assist with the safe and efficient operation of boilers, turbines, utilities, and associated Energy Plant equipment in accordance with operating procedures.
    • Complete the required training programme, operating manuals, and plant licences to become a competent Process Controller.
    • Conduct routine plant inspections, monitor equipment performance, and report abnormalities or process deviations to the Shift Superintendent.
    • Monitor and control process parameters through the Distributed Control System (DCS) and perform operational adjustments under supervision.
    • Carry out pre-start inspections, start-up, shutdown, isolation, and lock-out procedures in accordance with safety standards.
    • Maintain accurate operational records, complete shift handovers, and report production, quality, and equipment issues.
    • Comply with all SHEQ requirements by promoting safe work practices, maintaining good housekeeping, and participating in safety observations and risk assessments.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve plant performance, reliability, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance.

    What are we looking for?

    • Matric (Grade 12) with Maths & Physical Science or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
    • A relevant NQF Level 5 qualification or currently studying towards one.
    • National Diploma / Degree in Engineering or related fields will be advantageous.
    • Minimum of 2 years' plant experience within an Energy/Boiler environment.
    • Relevant plant licences - Energy/Boiler plants will be advantageous.
