    • On the Managed Fleets team, you will get to build innovative software that lets customers define the shape and size of their fleets and to monitor the health and efficiency of how they are run. You will be using technologies like Java, Typescript, React and Python as well as various Native AWS services and Amazon-internal tools.

    A day in the life

    HV MV Specialist, DCEO

    Description

    • The Data Center HV/MV Specialist Engineer (SE) is responsible for ensuring that all high voltage and medium voltage electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center is operating at peak efficiency.
    • This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and emergency response to emergent issues. The SE serves as a subject matter expert on high voltage and medium voltage equipment, reticulation and protection systems. The SE is a technical resource interacting with onsite Facility Managers, Engineering Operations Technicians (EOT) and any third-party vendors. They are expected to be a singular focal point for the cluster’s high and medium voltage electrical infrastructure that supports operations.
    • Also expected from the SE is the ability to manage large scale electrical impacting projects and new region support from conception to completion. These projects involve large amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with external support groups including engineering, automation, procurement, and finance in both local and global settings.
    • The SE will be tasked with creating and delivering on key milestones, obtaining and tracking quotes for all necessary costs, and documenting project results for future implementation at other facilities. The goals of such projects are for the SE to drive innovation and resiliency while reducing operational costs in the facilities. The SE will ensure that the deliverables related to medium and high voltage infrastructure meet legal compliance and international quality standards.
    • The SE directs, trains and supports EOTs in their role of providing hands-on medium and high voltage equipment troubleshooting and operational knowledge. Implementation and execution of site/equipment-specific training exercises is also expected. This equipment includes, but is not limited to, HV switchgear, MV switchgear, protection systems, transformers, cables, and legislative requirements.
    • The role will be based in Cape Town; however flexibility is required to travel to other locations within the MEA region if required.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations and maintenance of medium and high voltage infrastructure
    • Operate independently with limited direct management
