    Senior Software Engineer (Java)

    Job Summary:

    • The Senior Software Engineer will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining high-performance services supporting our suite of SaaS products.
    • This role requires a strong understanding of Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and cloud computing.
    • The successful candidate will work closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and other engineers to ensure we deliver the right value at the right time.
    • They will excel in an agile development environment and drive continuous improvement and adoption of best practices.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality backend systems
    • Work with a cross functional team to deliver projects on time and within budget
    • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to testing, deployment and evolution
    • Stay up to date on the latest technologies and trends in the software industry
    • Mentor and train junior engineers
    • Work with engineers to design and implement full-stack solutions

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
    • Extensive experience with building Java services in the Spring (Boot) ecosystem with a focus on efficiency and maintainability.
    • Experience building and deploying scalable architectures in a cloud environment (AWS Preferred), including Kubernetes
    • Solid experience in testing frameworks (Mockito, Junit)
    • Strong understanding of CI/CD governance and principles
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills to identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues effectively.
    • Strong sense of ownership to take initiative, be accountable for assigned tasks, and deliver high-quality results.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and clients.
    • Experience working in accordance with agile and XP principles, and in frameworks such as Scrum & Kanban

    Advantageous skills:

    • Microservices Architecture: Understanding of microservices architecture and experience building microservices applications.
    • Containerization Technologies: Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes for deploying and scaling applications.
    • CI/CD Pipelines: Experience with building and maintaining CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) tools and pipelines for automated builds, testing, and deployments.

    • Python knowledge for some integration work

    Job Summary

    • As an Insights Associate within our Cape Town Insight Hub, you will play a crucial role in delivery market research projects, responding to client briefs related to consumer attitudes and behaviors to inform product innovation and brand comm's.
    • The hub team delivers projects utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research techniques on social datasets to analyze data, identify trends and understand consumers’ shifting interests.
    • In collaboration with our Insight and Client teams in Cape Town, London & New York, you will be jointly responsible for ensuring we provide high-quality insights and analytics across a diverse range of client projects.
    • This role presents an opportunity to enhance your insights skills in addressing captivating client issues, and expanding your knowledge of how social research and data science can revolutionize traditional research approaches.
    • You will engage in a creative research process where analytical rigor is as important as curiosity about the world, all within a dynamic and social team.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct both data-led and qualitative analysis, utilizing Black Swan’s proprietary tools and interpreting large volumes of Excel data.
    • Craft succinct reports of analysis, identifying compelling insights that answer key business questions.
    • Actively participate in client and internal meetings, debriefs, and presentations.
    • Share ideas and key learnings within the team through informal communication and team sharing sessions.
    • Monitor the project’s performance and escalate obstacles to project quality/timing to the appropriate stakeholder.
    • Role model to our Insights Associates, troubleshooting, coaching, and training on tasks such as taxonomy builds, expanding inclusion and exclusion terms, data curation, and outputting.

    Requirements:

    • Strong academic background with a relevant Degree or post-graduate qualification.
    • minimum 1 years of relevant work experience in qualitative and quantitative research or data analysis.
    • Interest in product innovation, new technologies, and understanding consumer attitudes & behavior.
    • Enthusiasm for emerging research techniques and the potential of social data.
    • Proficient in working with and interpreting large volumes of Excel data.
    • Skilled at using PowerPoint to present in a professional and visually compelling way.
