    Constable

    Former Members Re-enlistment Criteria:

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Prior Employment: Must have served as a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS) under the Police Service Act 68 of 1995 in the ranks of Constable, Sergeant, or Warrant Officer.
    • Training: Must have successfully completed basic police training and relevant functional police training courses.
    • Disciplinary Record: Must have had a good disciplinary and attendance record during their previous employment in SAPS.
    • Education: Must have at least a Grade 12 (Senior Certificate) or higher qualification.
    • Driver’s License: Must hold a valid light motor vehicle license (code B).
    • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen (proof required).
    • Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in at least two official languages, with English being one of them.
    • Medical Examination: Must submit to a medical examination as required by the National Commissioner.
    • Psychological Assessment: Must undergo a psychological assessment and meet the profile of a police official.
    • Tattoos: Must not have visible tattoo marks that conflict with the objectives of the Service.
    • Criminal Record: Must have no prior criminal convictions or pending criminal/disciplinary cases. Must consent to fingerprinting and background checks.
    • Firearm Fitness: Must not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
    • Deployment Flexibility: Must be prepared to relocate or accept a post that may require reasonable traveling and deployment based on the needs of the Service.
    • Conflict of Interest: Must not be involved in any business or activity that conflicts with the integrity of the Service.
    • Training Requirements: Must be willing to undergo a refresher course or additional training as determined by the National Commissioner. Those without formal detective training will be required to attend a three-month training course.
    • Background Checks: Must undergo vetting according to the Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005) and the National Sex Offenders Register (Criminal Law [Sexual Offences and Related Matters] Amendment Act No. 32 of 2007). Individuals listed in either register will be disqualified.
    • Protection Orders: Candidates must disclose if they are a respondent in an interim or final protection order under the Domestic Violence Act (Act No. 116 of 1998) or Protection from Harassment Act (Act No. 17 of 2011). Failure to disclose may result in disqualification.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Age Limit: Must not be older than 55 years at the closing date of the advertisement.

    Ineligibility Criteria:

    • Retirement: Former members who have retired (early or compulsory retirement) are not eligible.
    • Dismissal or Discharge: Former members dishonorably discharged or dismissed will not be considered.

    Method of Application

    • The South African Police Service invites former members, who comply with the following requirements to apply for re-enlistment.
    • Successful candidates will be appointed in the ranks they previously held, only for the ranks of Constable, Sergeant and Warrant Officer.
    • The posts contained in this advertisement are for former members who previously held the ranks of Constable, Sergeant and Warrant Officer only.

    General:

    • Only the official application form (available on the SAPS website (www.saps.gov.za) and at SAPS Police Stations) will be accepted. The Z83 previously utilized will no longer be accepted. All instructions on the application form must be adhered to.
    • Failure to do so may result in the rejection of the application. The SAPS application forms can also be obtained from any SAPS Recruitment Office within the South African Police Service.
    • The post particulars and reference number of the post must be correctly specified on the application form.
    • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae as well as uncertified copies of an applicant’s ID,
    • Senior Certificate and all educational qualifications obtained, service certificates of previous employers stating the occupation, proof of relevant experience in the field of the post and motor vehicle driver’s license must be submitted together with the application form.
    • Original documentations of shot listed candidates must be produced during the selection process as requested.
    • Qualifications and driver’s licences submitted will be subjected  to verification checking with the relevant institutions.
    • If a candidate is short-listed, it will be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview.
    • Reference checking will be conducted on all short listed applicants.
    • The South African Police Service will verify the residential address of applicants and conduct reference checks.
    • Late applications will not be accepted or considered. If a candidate is short-listed, it can be expected of him/her to undergo a personal interview as well as a practical assessment.

    • Short-listed candidates for appointment to certain identified posts, will be vetted in terms of the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2007 (Act No 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act, 2005 (Act No 38 of 2005).
    • A candidate whose particulars appear in either the National Register for Sex Offenders or Part B of the Child Protection Register, will be disqualified from appointment to that post. 
    • All short-listed candidates will be subjected to fingerprint screening.
