    Principal, Mobile Assets - Africa Business Unit

    Objective of the role

    • The Principal– Mobile Assets is responsible for providing oversight and support of the Owner and Mining Contractor heavy mobile equipment (HME) Workshop, Pit Maintenance and Light Vehicles ensuring the strategic maintenance and efficient operation of HME & LVs.
    • The role and accountabilities are to ensure that the discipline functions as the centre of excellence and the custodian of all matters relating mobile equipment within the asset management discipline.
    • The role ensures that all equipment is maintained according to the equipment management strategy, optimising for full cost of ownership, and maintaining equipment reliability and efficiency. 

    Education & Qualifications

    • Engineering or Maintenance related qualification.

    Technical Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

    • 10+ years, preferably with Asset / HME management experience.
    • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in a core engineering    discipline – i.e. Mechanical or Electrical or post-graduate in Asset Management would be beneficial.
    • Strong track record of success at specialist level in the mining industry working within the surface and underground mobile assets (HME) field. Deep level understanding of planning and maintenance of mobile equipment to ensure Integrity over the life of mine. At least 5 years relevant operational experience on a mine site related to mobile mining equipment. Relevant Mine/Site based experience is crucial. 

    Asset Management Strategy

    • Able to create a complete and well thought out asset strategy, using equipment and production data. 
    • Can establish work management systems that deliver effective planning, resourcing and execution of maintenance work on schedule and within budget. 
    • Define continuous improvement processes to systematically identify, prevent and eliminate chronic defects that lead to failures of major and critical equipment. 
    • Able to develop processes to assess the condition of equipment, plant, and critical infrastructure in order to identify early signs of failure, take preventative action and mitigate consequences. 
    • Understands the critical operational parameters to operate machinery and equipment within design tolerances.   
    • Able to define and establish a risk-based asset integrity process that identifies, prioritises and manages asset integrity threats.  

    Engineering Science   

    • Deeply understands how to analyse the performance of machinery and equipment and identify opportunities to increase both availability and utilisation. 
    • Can do fault diagnosis and liaise with subject matter experts and equipment suppliers in collaborating to increase equipment performance.
    • Understand the use of Fleet modelling software in determining fleet requirements and productivities. 

    Business Planning  

    • Is able to optimise the engineering budget through the evaluation of engineering/maintenance options in conjunction with mine and process planning.  
    • Provides the tools to track benefits and expenses and for forecasting, planning and execution of the business plan. 
    • Reviews and validates Stay-in-Business capital plans and projects to meet business requirements and reduce risk.  

    Operational Excellence 

    • Is able to set OEE targets and generate innovative solutions to close the performance gaps relating to the primary drivers of value (run time, throughput and reliability)  
    • Can integrate operational and economic models into a value engineering model for the mine and plant.  
    • Can demonstrate the sustainability of equipment and process performance improvements by integrating these with the business planning process. 

    Information Management

    • Undertakes systematic analysis to the required level of detail and rigour and supports conclusions with accurate information and analysis. 
    • Uses sound judgement and experience to validate and/or question the data. 

    Project Management  

    • Can review a project for compliance against the standard and make recommendations to address deficiencies. 
    • Can lead the work of engineering design service providers 
    • Applies project management principles in achieving deliverables particularly when working with multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Strong ability to lead and work effectively with people, including leading high performing professional teams. 
    • Preparedness to undertake extensive business travel. Well-developed industry networks

    Role Accountabilities

    Budget delivery: Analyse and Report actual mining performance and oversee the supply, logistics and stores processes

    Performance Analysis and Reporting:

    • Analyse and report actual mining maintenance performance against the Annual Rate Review (ARR) parameters, budget, and forecast plans.
    • Evaluate contractual maintenance performance using key parameters and report through to the ALT, and where there is underperformance,
    • Validate maintenance KPIs in the ARR process with contractors.
    • Provide monthly variance analysis for maintenance KPIs (monthly, quarterly, annually).
    • Generate monthly reports comparing maintenance KPIs to ARR for presentation at ALTs.
    • Provide business planning support in regards to fleet sizing and asset strategy
    • Provide inputs & support where required for annual planning process.
    • Provide inputs and analysis support to bespoke projects.
    • Monitors labour ratios and maintenance costs and supports the contractor in driving down life cycle costs.
    • Plays an active role working directly with alliance partners in improving performance of any of the key asset management metrics not achieving target.

    Supply Chain and Logistics Management:

    • Ensure effective supply, logistics, and stores processes to maintain part availability for planned and unplanned work.
    • Monitors the delays associated with waiting for parts and where excessive drive the contractor to improve machines-await-parts metric targets.
    • Complete routine reviews of critical spares inventory on sites.

    Context setting/long term planning:

    • Review and escalate as required strategic maintenance plans for all HME, aligning with organisational goals and long-term asset management strategies.  Provides a regional view of the long-term plan
    • Reviews the Life of Mine/Life asset plans that balances machine residual life and performance and ensures it aligns with business need
    • Reviews Equipment management strategies to understand alignment with OEM/Best Practice
    • Work directly with CTO as the BU Subject Matter expert.

    Mining Contract Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration across departments and with suppliers
    • Providing governance across the contractor’s compliance with the Safety & Health and Environmental policies, standards, procedures, and regulations.
    • Provide oversight of statutory positions within the owner & contract maintenance teams
    • Coach and advise contract owners and key stakeholders regarding the contractual levers for effective contract management detailed within the scope of the Alliance contracts related to Maintenance.
    • Benchmark key contract inputs for maintenance and monitor actual performance against appropriate benchmarks.
    • Identify opportunities for performance and cost improvements and advise contractors/owners accordingly.
    • Acts as custodian of the AMT process associated with Asset Management of HME and LVs and is a key member of AMTs, providing input into ALT processes.
    • Act as the key contract liaison between AGA and Mining Contractors for maintenance related tasks
    • Escalation of issues as required to the AMT/ALT.
    • Constructive contribution to the entire business unit performance.

    Governance/Risk:

    Reliability Program:

    • Ensure contractor and owner run fleets have a targeted reliability program for the key production units to address acute and chronic problems.
    • Support Alliance Contractors to conduct data-driven reliability analysis for the key production fleet, and where required stress test analysis and recommendations
    • Ensure contractors have developed detailed action plans with progress tracking.

    Root Cause Problem Solving:

    • Champion a robust root cause problem-solving program for mining contractors to investigate large and recurring failures in line with the Contractors framework.
    • Ensure detailed action plans with progress tracking.
    • Demonstrate reductions in large or recurring problems.

    Work Management Process:

    • Ensure adherence to the contractor's work management process and integrate quality into planning and execution.
    • Provide oversight to the contractor work management process for compliance and target metrics
    • Provide oversight of the quality scoping process and completion.

    Remuneration

    Director, Process Control

    Objective of the role

    • To provide Process Control services to operations, projects and full asset potential. Manage specific technology roadmap projects in Metallurgy.

    Education & Qualifications

    • A degree qualification in Chemical/ Metallurgical/ Electrical or Electronic Engineering or Control Systems related field.

    Technical Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • At least 15 years relevant experience in the mining industry.
    • Ability to take a 3-5 year whole-of-business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities.

    • Provide Global Process Control and Automation Services to Operations, Projects and Full asset potential activity.

    This includes;

    • Champion the AGA Safety Vision by ensuring that process control work is planned and conducted with safety as the first priority.
    • Embed long-term process control standards, analytics capability, and optimization practices across the business to ensure sustainable operational excellence.
    • Lead the execution of the PCA initiative as outlined in the Process Control and Analytics Charter, including:
    • Baseline performance assessments and control loop evaluations.
    • Rollout of real-time dashboards, analytics tools, and control loop diagnostics.
    • Implementation of control improvement recommendations, including loop tuning and control strategy changes.
    • Setup and deployment of APC and AI solutions, and integration of digital twin models.
    • Provide technical support to site teams in process control design, troubleshooting, and optimization.
    • Assist sites in developing fit-for-purpose control philosophies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
    • Monitor and report on key performance metrics (KPMs), and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
    • Support the development and rollout of training materials to build process control capacity across AGA operations.
    • Act as the technical liaison with third-party control consultants, APC vendors, and digital solution providers.
    • Contribute to process design reviews for continuous improvement initiatives and M&A technical due diligence as related to process control systems.

    People Accountabilities

    • Supporting the VP Processing and Tailings in Discipline Health activity, this includes;
    • Build process control capability within site teams by mentoring metallurgists and control room operators and site control technicians.
    • Support the Director Metallurgy(s) and BU Process Managers in aligning site-level priorities with corporate strategy for process control.
    • Foster collaboration between operations, OT, DT, and external vendors.
    • Ensure all internal and external people are treated in accordance with AGA's company values.
    • Align with BU Process Managers on succession planning and talent management of process control professionals.
    • Make oneself available in a mentoring capacity for relevant production or technical roles.
