    Senior Mechanical Engineer

    Job description

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in the Pulp and Paper industry. 

    • Deliver mechanical engineering and design functions for Pulp and Paper projects
    • Ensure that designs are in accordance with project / study requirements and company objectives, and are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner
    • Work in a safe manner, comply with and actively contribute to the Wood Health, Safety and Environmental HSE policies, manuals and procedures. At all times, consider the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment

    Skills / Qualifications

    • BSc, BEng, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
    • Professional registration with ECSA
    • Minimum of 10 to 15 years’ mechanical engineering experience with at least 5 to 8 years in the Pulp and Paper industry with experience in the design office and the field
    • Lead Mechanical engineer experience and Mechanical package management experience
    • Ability to interpret and analyse site conditions
    • Plant layout knowledge of mechanical equipment
    • Bulk materials handling knowledge
    • Vessel, tank and plate work design experience
    • Piping engineering and piping materials selection experience
    • Pumping and pump systems experience
    • Experience working within or interfacing with a 3D modelling environment
    • Understanding of South African and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the Pulp and Paper sector
    • Site experience - construction and commissioning
    • Good commercial awareness / risk management skills
    • Project planning skills
    • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and engineering programs
    • Ability to delegate effectively
    • Effective leadership skills and skilled in coaching and mentoring of both engineers and designers
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work effectively in a team

    Project Engineering Manager

    Job description

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Engineering Manager with experience in the Pulp and Paper industry.

    • Responsible for Engineering management and co-ordination on Pulp & Paper projects
    • Provide specific engineering input to the project with both a line and functional role and reporting responsibility
    • Responsible for planning, execution, monitoring, control and close out of engineering deliverables
    • Ensure that technical solutions embody agreed levels of operability, maintainability and constructability
    • Ensure the project design and engineering specifications are in compliance with location specific government rules, regulations and statutes
    • Ensure Wood Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies, manuals and procedures are complied with
    • Accountable for the project engineering budget and schedule
    • Responsible for managing engineering interfaces, with internal resources and with external stakeholders
    • Prepare and implement the project / study specific Engineering Execution Plan
    • Responsible for establishing and maintaining the project / study Design Basis, including interpreting the needs of the client
    • Responsible for assembling and approving of general engineering procedures, work instructions, checklists and guidelines
    • Responsible for maintaining consistency of standards and presentation across engineering design documentation
    • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating technical reviews
    • Responsible for implementing preventative and corrective actions relating to engineering and design performance
    • Manage the enquiry, tendering and adjudication phases across all disciplines, provide final recommendation and sign off for the project / study manager
    • Manage engineering resources (time and cost) against budget
    • Prepare progress reports highlighting achievements, issues and deviations

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Undergraduate Degree, e.g. BSc, BEng, B.Tech
    • Preferably in Process or Mechanical Engineering
    • Multi-discipline Formal Qualification
    • Professional registration with ECSA
    • Minimum of 15 years’ general engineering experience with at least 10 years in the Pulp & Paper processing area in the design office and the field
    • Detailed Process or Mechanical and Piping experience
    • An understanding of technical issues across all engineering disciplines
    • Ability to obtain performance from, and get deadlines met, by people, without having direct authority over them
    • Good organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to solve problems effectively
    • Superior interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to effectively work in a team
    • Attention to detail
    • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and engineering programs
    • Managerial - leadership ability / skills with ability to delegate effectively
    • Understanding of South African and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements
    • Site experience - construction and commissioning
