Job Description
Purpose of Job /Role Intent:
Direct and Indirect Tax compliance functions for Sasol’s International hub (e.g Canada, UK, Mozambique, Gabon etc).
The incumbent will be responsible for all tax compliance functions locally and international relating to the International hub activities.
The incumbent will support the Head of Tax: TP, BEPS & International to ensure that the SEPI hub is tax compliant and to add value to the business of the SA operations group.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience required
- BCom Hons – 7 years relevant tax experience
or
- B Com Hons and articles completed – 5 years relevant tax experience
or
- CA (SA) with 3 years of relevant tax experience.
- Post graduate qualification in Taxation
- Post Graduate qualification in International taxation will be an advantage
Key accountabilities
- Direct & International Tax
- Ensure proper treatment and management of statutory tax matters, tax return compliance, accounting for taxes and payments.
- Accountable for relevant tax matters of the Upstream Oil & Gas business and relevant cross border issues.
- Consult to the business on corporate taxes from a planning and compliance perspective.
- Conducts reviews to identify areas of potential non-compliance and incorrect tax treatment.
- Prepare and respond to Revenue Authorities.
- Assist and validate current and deferred tax charge for financial reporting purposes.
- Ensure proper treatment and management of all tax matters relating to international activities.
- Controlled Foreign Companies and PE's
- Responsible for managing and advisory on Controlled Foreign Companies ('CFC') implications for the group - CFC analysis, audit defence strategies, including preparation and review of CFC tax calculations.
- Advice the business on tax risks created by CFC issues and on the implications for the group’s tax position.
- Advice the business on tax risks created by Permanent Establishment and Place of effective management issues and on the implications for the group’s tax position.
Indirect Taxes
- Provides advice and guidance on VAT, customs and excise duties.
- Ensures proper treatment and management of statutory indirect taxes, compliance, accounting and remittance.
- Advices on VAT treatment of transactions both from compliance and planning perspective.
- Conducts Vat reviews to identify areas of potential non-compliance
- Investigate and resolve queries on indirect tax audits conducted by tax authorities
- Manage customs & excise audits and ensure compliance
General
- Comply with Dividends tax and withholding tax requirements.
- Maximise tax incentives & DTI incentives
- Tax projects
- Incumbent should develop support for the functions he/she performs.
- Keep Head of Tax: TP & International informed on all the above tax matters.

Key accountabilities:
Tax Compliance

- Advise to all Group entities in matters of tax planning, tax compliance and tax risk management.
- Coordinate all International Group operations tax matters, in particular:

Execute and/ or manage forensic investigations within the Sasol Group.
Ensure and/ or monitor the quality of forensic investigations executed to ensure they are in alignment with the Sasol Assurance Services Operating Manual (SASOM).
