    Manager: Operational Risk (Line 1)

    Job description

    The Commonwealth Bank Group is executing a plan to enter and disrupt the South African banking market. This will be achieved through a combination of innovative technology platforms, simple transparent and relevant customer offers, unique and differentiated partnerships and a distinctive focus on digital banking. Our strategy is one of financial inclusion – we are looking to breaking down the barriers to participation in the formal financial system. We will do this through a combination of this ultra-low cost innovative digital banking proposition together with an emphasis on financial literacy where we will deliver the knowledge and understanding that is a prerequisite to trust and participation.

    The Purpose Of The Role

    You will implement best practice operational risk management frameworks and practices across CBSA. You must ensure a risk based approach to risk management across everything we do and must ensure that potential risks are identified, assessed, considered, reported on and understood by business leaders when making decisions.

    You Will

    Perform the following tasks in manner consistent with CBA’s values of Integrity, Accountability, Collaboration, Service and Excellence. People Capabilities will be at the forefront of what you do including Customer Focus, Team & Culture, Continuous Improvement, Effective Communication, Judgement and Drive Results.

    • Assist the Technology and Operations Team in the implementation of appropriate operational risk processes and practices across all business units including the development of risk and control self-assessment, control testing, development and monitoring of key risk indicators, internal loss data and issue management.
    • Produce adequate Line 1 Operational Risk reporting for CBSA and ensure that the Technology and Operations Leaders, Head of Operational Risk and other senior stakeholders are kept informed of emerging risks and ongoing performance.
    • Identify, assess and report on operational risks for CBSA.
    • Provide operational risk capability exchange to IFS investments.
    • Participate, facilitate and lead as required in internal control and thematic reviews.
    • Identify, assess and report on key risks and control issues within material projects, new products or process changes. Provide advice on the remediation of incidents identified through the Incident Management process.
    • Escalate any areas of concern and ensure remedial steps are identified and implemented.
    • Perform deep dive and thematic reviews on management request.
    • Perform root cause analysis and lessons learnt on risk events.
    • Identify potential fraud risks and highlight to management.

    What will make you successful?

    • Tertiary qualifications in a finance, legal or commerce discipline desirable. Understanding the business, it’s processes and possible weaknesses to be able to implement the elements of the Operational Risk Management Framework.
    • 7 Years’ Experience in implementing and managing operational risk management frameworks in a banking or insurance environment.
    • Ability to identify risks, support the business on developing controls and applying good risk practices.
    • Be able to multi task and be a self-starter.
    • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders.

    • Provide input to the development and implementation of relevant risk policies that support the integrated framework for technology risk within operational risk
    • Develop and implement reporting for areas of responsibility and ensure that the Chief Technology and Operations Officer for TYME and Line 2 Risk are kept informed of emerging risks and ongoing performance.
    • Participate, facilitate and lead as required in reviews.
    • Provide recommendations on key technology and other operational risks and control issues within material projects, new products or process changes. Provide advice to the IFS businesses on the remediation of incidents identified through the Incident Management process.

    • Identifying technology risk, evaluating design and operating effectiveness of system controls.

    What will make you successful?

    • Professional membership such as CISA or equivalent desirable.
    • Tertiary qualifications in a finance, technology or commerce discipline desirable.
    • Understanding the business, it’s processes and possible weaknesses to be able to implement the elements of the Operational Risk Management Framework.
    • 7 years’ experience in implementing and managing operational risk management frameworks in a banking, telecoms or insurance environment with specialization in Technology Risk.
    • Experience in technology risk governance and strong understanding of regulations relating to technology risk, and information security.
    • Ability to identify technology and other operational risks, assist the business to implement good risk practices
    • Be able to multi task and be a self-starter.
    • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders.

    Senior Digital Product Owner

    The Senior Digital Product Owner (DPO) role will work closely with the segment and product teams to build and manage new digital financial services offerings across TYME’s digital assets. This entails taking responsibility for the full life-cycle of product development from concept, customer research and design through to product development, launch, iteration and support.

    You Will

    • Lead agile delivery teams to prioritise backlog items, contribute to user story writing, ensure the team understands the product backlog, owning the product roadmap on behalf of business stakeholders and planning for sprints in conjunction with the scrum master for these sprints
    • Work with UXD, marketing, analytics and the research team to identify customer personas and segments, validate MVP and product scope and deepen knowledge of customer needs, motivations and behaviors to influence designs that contribute to a rewarding customer experience
    • Liaise regularly with technical developers and programmers to understand technical implications, prioritise development and make decisions about technical direction
    • Work closely with business stakeholders (e.g., product managers, risk, compliance, legal, finance) to understand business imperatives, rules of engagement, expectations, analyse and mitigate risks and determine a strategic approach to product development
    • Engage stakeholders to ensure that all project scope decisions are understood and agreed to and that all their needs are met
    • Own ongoing support and maintenance issues to ensure services are demonstrating continuous improvement and continuing to meet customer needs
    • Identify hypothesis to validate customer problems and define clear learning objectives that will ensure the appropriate tagging and analytics coverage is achieved to inform product roadmap and prioritisation decisions
    • Motivate and work with a scrum team daily to move user stories into production, this includes attending and actively participating in scrum ceremonies
    • Continually seek new innovative ideas and technology to include in the project delivery and socialize effectively with project stakeholders
    • Drive continuous improvement activities for the scrum team
    • Ensure all work results delivered by the scrum team are of high standard

    What will make you successful?

    • Industry tertiary qualified with Agile Product Owner qualifications is highly desirable
    • Certified Scrum Product Owner
    • At least 2 years’ experience in a similar role
    • Proven ability and experience with successfully managing projects to completion
    • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment as a Digital Product Owner
    • Proven ability to deal with ambiguous situations
    • Experienced in building best practice and innovative customer experiences, customer engagement and product development
    • A natural digital junkie who keeps abreast of the latest digital trends
    • Experience liaising with business stakeholders and technical development teams to deliver digital products & services
    • Comfort with working across multiple streams in a fast paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment
    • Strong grasp of new technologies, competitive landscapes, marketplace, and regulatory environment
    • Strong influencing skills and experience successfully liaising with difficult business stakeholders and technical development teams to deliver digital products & services whilst maintaining strong relationships
    • Demonstrates a strong commercial acumen with a desire to base decisions on data and business value
    • Experience working with agile and project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Slack, Hipchat and others is an advantage
    • Financial services/payments, ecommerce, and mobile commerce industry experience a strong advantage
