The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) is proud to announce National Certificate Engineering Bursary Programme for the citizens of South Africa. The bursary is available to conduct engineering at the Northern Cape Urban Vocational Education and Training College (NCU TVET) in Kimberley.
Course Level: The bursary is available to pursue certificate programme.
Study Subject: The bursary is awarded in the following fields:
- Electrical Engineering – Electrical or Instrumentation and Control or
- Mechanical Engineering – Fitting and Turning or Welding
Scholarship Award: The bursary will cover the followings:
For students completing the bridging course and for students studying N1, N2 or N3, SKA SA will provide NCU TVET College with funds for:
- The application fee
- The registration fee
- The cost of accommodation at the college residence
- The cost of all meals at the college residence
- The cost of tuition /courses
- The cost of all the tools required for your studies (if a student loses his / her tools, he/she will be responsible for replacing them).
- In addition, the SKA SA will organise and pay for three return trips (road travel only), for each student, from their home to college, each year.
For students completing their practical training, SKA SA will provide the training centre with funds for:
- Registration fee
- The cost of tuition and other related courses
- The cost of accommodation (if student stays far from home)
- The cost of meals at the training centre (if student stays far from home)
- The cost of all the tools required for your studies (if a student loses his / her tools, he/she will be responsible for replacing them).
- In addition, the student will be provided with a monthly stipend in line with SETA rate.
- The SKA SA will also organize and pay for a return trip, for each student, from home to the training centre, each year.
- For students completing their apprenticeship or work integrated learning, SKA SA will provide funds for:
- Management fee for the host employer (If applicable)
- The cost of accommodation (if student stays far from home)
- The cost of meals (if student stays far from home)
- The cost for pre- trade preparation
- The cost for trade test
- In addition, SKA SA will organise and pay for a return trip, for each of the students, from home to host employer, each year.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- South African citizens from Carnarvon, Williston, Van Wyksvlei, Vosburg, Loxton, Victoria West and Brandvlei.
- Students who wish to study, or are currently studying, towards a National Certificate in one of the following trades:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electrical; or
- Instrumentation and Control
- Mechanical Engineering
- Fitting and Turning; or
- Welding
- Students who studied Mathematics and Physical Science in Grade 12, or who obtained at least a 50% average at a Technical Vocational Education Training College;
- Students who are 24 years of age, or younger, and completed Grade 12 in, or after, 2015.
- Nationality: Applicants of Carnarvon, Williston, Van Wyksvlei, Vosburg, Loxton, Victoria West and Brandvlei can apply for the bursary.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have completed Grade 12.
