MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To assist the Manger of Trade Finance Operations with the day-to-day running of the department, specifically the supervision of the Trade Finance Operations employees.

To accurately and timeously check the necessary Import and Export financing applications, i.e. irrevocable Letters of Credit Imports and Exports, Foreign Bills for Collections, Telegraphic Transfers, Guarantees, Letters of Confirmations, Forward Exchange Cover and Local payments, within laid down Policies and Procedures and time frame/Service Level Agreements (SLA’s).

Ensure the smooth running of a portfolio of clients and be able to work under pressure with the Trade Finance Sales team and the Credit Department.

To ensure compliance of conditions applicable to Trade Finance facilities, which Credit imposes on the facilities.

Provide excellent service within agreed turnaround times and guiding clients, without giving any financial advice where required.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

• Supervise the Trade Finance Operations team in terms of coaching and development
• Ensure that conditions and procedures applicable to special facilities are maintained and adhered to
• Enhance processes and procedures in the Trade Finance Department
• Be involved with the funding of our offshore subsidiary, Sasfin Asia Limited
• · Assist Trade Finance Manager with managing the Net Open Position of Sasfin Asia Limited
• · Check and authorise all deals submitted by the Import Controllers correctly and efficiently
• · Check and verify all local deals on the Corporate Plus account system
• · Verify all foreign deals on Swift and Microsoft
• · Request rates from the Forex Dealers in London/ Sasfin Bank.
• · Ensure proper controls and procedures are adhered to with regards to collections and unpaid bills
• · Report/feedback to Manager of Trade Finance Operations
• · Attend to certain weekly and daily reports
• · Liaise/troubleshoot with Business Banking sales and relationship staff/credit staff for any queries relating to transactions
• · Deal with BFS issues and enhancements

ACCOUNTABILITY

• Monitor risks of portfolios of client within laid down policies and procedures
• Ensure that operational processes are followed
• Operate as a team player ensuring the achievement of the department’s goals
• Promote and uphold Sasfin brand and values.
• Develop and maintain a strong understanding of daily expectations within Operations
• Disclose any errors, whether made personally or known to be made by anyone else
• Any other ad hoc functions as communicated by management

NATURE OF POSITION

• Assist with all queries stemming from client relationships
• Manage credit risk of existing clients and new applications
• Ensure all control measures relative to the approved facility are adhered to
• Ensure correctness of and compliance to all documentation relevant to existing and new clients
• Assist Trade Finance team in the execution of their daily duties

SKILLS/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

• A completed degree/diploma or significant progress to the completion thereof
• Operational banking experience in the Trade Finance Operations/International banking environment
• Previous supervisory experience would be advantageous
• Good knowledge of Trade Finance
• Assertive and professional
• Client centric
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadline
• Team player but self-sufficient
• Computer literate in BFS and SWIFT
