JUNIOR SQL DBA / DEVELOPER at SAOTA

Job Description

• SAOTA is looking for a dynamic and driven Junior DBA to join their team. The contract is initially for 3 months with the strong possibility to extend. The candidate is to fulfill the DBA role as the Core Function but will also be involved in Development Projects under the guidance of a Senior Developer / BI Architect.

• Executing day to day DBA functions to assist in achieving a stable and secure production database environment which performs in alignment with industry standards
• Administrate, configure, monitor and maintain SQL Server databases.
• Monitor processes.
• Ensure that backup and recovery plans and procedures are implemented and tested regularly
• Ensure that security is implemented and maintained
• Troubleshoot access issues
• Performance tuning on databases
• Improve and automate data loading process.
• Database extraction and updating: Conduct ETL (Extract, transform and load) processes to upload raw data to a prescribed database format.
• Provide information and generate reports for people when requested
• Perform daily and monthly data batch processing and generate reports.
• Test migrated data from different servers
• Manipulating Data and pivoting data
• Data Cleaning.
• Formatting data to be usable by various role-players.
• Construct appropriate data structures for storage and presentation.
• Troubleshoot data upload issues.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND CRITERIA

• Must be passionate about learning.
• Grade 12 or Matric Equivalent
• MS SQL Certification or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of database administration experience on Microsoft SQL 2012 up to 2016 platforms.
• Minimum 2 years T-SQL experience
• Methodical, accurate and consistent attention to detail.
• Able to work without supervision and to take initiative in response to instruction.
• Able to manage sensitive and sometimes confidential information.
• The nature of the work will require occasional additional hours as necessary, this may include weekends.

ADVANTAGEOUS CRITERIA

• Tertiary certification, diploma or degree in computer systems or equivalent.
• Experience in Power BI
• Previous development experience will be to your advantage
