Through this internship position, successful candidates will be part a global cohort of interns who will join IBM Research in almost all IBM Research global locations for the “summer internships” for 2021. Candidates will gain insights into real industry challenges and obtain hands-on research and engineering experience, while working alongside some of IBM’s leading researchers, scientists, designers and engineers. Candidates will bring back knowledge of IBM’s advanced technologies and contacts throughout IBM Research. The duration of the internship is three (3) months, and the positions are to be held during the US Summer months in 2021.

The Role And Responsibilities

• Conduct research in the field of machine learning and deep learning
• Collaborate with researchers and developers across IBM’s global teams in ongoing research and engineering projects.
• Build information machines and smart applications that enable humans to make better decisions and perform more efficiently in their tasks and allow for their swift integration into industry software components
• Participate in global internship training and networking activities.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

• Currently registered students who are in their BSc 3rd year, BSc Hons year, or MSc first year; who are studying towards a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, and related fields
• Advanced experience in general programming skills in one or more of these languages: Python, Java, Javascript, C++, etc.

Preferred Technical And Professional Expertise

• Strong background in machine learning, deep learning and applied statistics.
• Practical experience with Machine Learning and/or Deep Learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of software engineering practices including agile processes.
