Tax Consultant/Analyst at Singular Systems (Pty) Ltd

Job Description

We are looking for someone to join our team that works with Investment Taxes on financial instruments. The role will involve a combination of the following:

• Highly technical tax work
• Working with financial instruments
• Financial systems as well as working with databases and designing SQL queries to mine, enrich and cleans data in the databases.
• Modeling and testing of scenarios (i.e. new CGT calculations) in the software
• Guiding software programmers when designing new software functionality, or troubleshooting computations and algorithms within the software
• Testing software for new developments, software customisations or software bugs (flaws)
• Maintaining of our CGT software user manual and other tax documentation
• Software support and training for licensed clients
• Software implementation and upgrades for clients
• Involvement in sales and marketing activities of our CGT software and services (presentations, software demonstrations, proposals etc.
• The strongest areas of focus in the income tax act are the 8th schedule, Section 24J, Corporate Restructuring provisions as well as the basic fundamentals of income tax. Dividend Withholding Tax, Interest Withholding tax and FATCA experience will also be useful. Although training will be provided we require a candidate that has a certain level of skill and experience in one or many of the roles described above.

From an outsourcing perspective the canditate is required to:

• Work with data from our clients’ investment management systems in order to enrich the data with tax relevant information. Mechanically we do this mainly via SQL queries:
• Identifying data patterns and trends in client data (data mining)
• Designing SQL queries to interrogate and manipulate data
• Enriching the data for missing tax information
• Elimination of false disposals and inconsistent data from client data
• Investigating of data exceptions and inconsistencies
• Investigate corporate actions and applying the corporate action correctly to the data
• Compile and analyse reports after processing and investigate any issues identified
• Work with clients and client auditors on explanations and investigation of tax calculations

General:

• Involvement in our other tax software and services (e.g. Dividend withholding tax and tax directive applications)
• Involvement in ad hoc projects, software developments and services
• Involvement in other divisions where required (share scheme administration, transfer secretarial, Shareholder analytics and software development)
• Needs to have a valid driver’s licence and own a car
• Needs the ability to work after hours if the need arises and meet deadlines of clients or internal projects
• Needs the ability to travel and spend time in Cape Town if required to work in the Cape Town office
