Purpose of the Role:

• To ensure operational management of an integrated feed mill operation and manage production, engineering and on-site contractors.

Minimum Requirements:

• 3 year Degree or Diploma, preferably in Engineering or Operations Management within the relevant field
• 6 years’ experience in a production environment, 2-3 years of which is at a CU level
• A GCC is essential
• Previous experience managing a large team

Key Accountabilities:

• Contributes to Functional Strategy into Action
• Provide input into Business Unit strategy (AFE), based on a 5 year view of requirements by keeping up to date with the latest trends and developments in feed production and engineering
• Provide input to annual functional “Strategy in to Action, and executes annual objectives for Operations
• Ensure service delivery and contribute to the relationship between cross functional mill management team
• Ensure Operations and Asset Management balance to achieve FM Excellence
• Drive Operations asset productivity through agreed KPIs and efficiencies
• Report on a weekly basis on actual Operations KPI’s versus budget and address areas of non-conformance or concern proactively and timeously
• Drive Operations appearance and image through housekeeping, frontline customer and supplier interaction
• Oversight of Unitrans outbound on a day to day basis
• Asset Management
• Drive Operations sustainable asset care through planned maintenance and management of capex spend
• Drive Project Management principles within Operations
• Implement, develop and review outputs of On Key

Raw Materials and Finished Goods Management:

• Respond to Operations factors that cause raw material stock variances against target levels and initiate plans to manage losses
• Respond to Operations factors that cause finished goods stock variances against target levels and initiate plans to manage losses – Bags and/or Bulk.

Sustainability and Environmental Management:

• Measure and manage sustainability practices within area of responsibility
• Supply info timeously and verify info on Sustainability Report
• Implement and monitor Sustainability Report Targets
• Environmental Legal Compliance
• Management of Safety Health Risk and Quality
• Guide the Operations team to ensure that all legislative and Industry standards and ensure there are no areas of non-compliance.
• Drive Operational occupational health and safety compliance to all relevant legal requirements – 16.2 and GMR2 appointee.
• Chair and facilitate regular safety meetings and ensure that action points are defined and delivered upon.
• Suggest amendments to policies and practices to ensure that these are kept up to date and aligned with company objectives and standards.
• Drive the adherence and maintenance of ISO 9000/22 000/14 000/ 18 000 standards within the Total Integrated Management System throughout Operations and ensure that documentation within the system is applied consistently.
• Drive inbound, outbound and in–process quality control in line with the supply chain and external customer requirements.

Customer Service and Outsourced Contractor Management:

• Manage customer service through demand vs. capacity planning (Mill and Fleet)
• Manage contractor and outsourced activity in relation to their area of responsibility
• Provides Leadership:
• Lead Operations team towards meeting strategy and targets through communication and use of organizational talent management tool set.
• Manage and deliver on succession plans to enable the development of a future generation of leaders.
• Implement Employment Equity and ensure diversity is achieved at all levels and that statutory targets are met.
• Conduct regular performance appraisals with subordinates and ensure that the process is cascaded throughout.
• Manage employee relations climate and ensure corrective action is taken where required.

Financial Management:

• Report on and manage all input costs within Operations and manage budget over or under spend appropriately to ensure that issues are addressed before significant financial loss occurs
• Authorize expenses within level of authority and monitor spending activity to ensure compliance to financial and ethical standards.
• Implement and encourage cost cutting initiatives within the department which do not impact on long term business sustainability.
• Compile CAPEX documentation in line with Mill Strategy, taking into account ROI and sustainability requirements – ensures payback is achieved.
• Manage external supplier relationships and contracts with the procurement team to ensure agreed service levels are met.
