    System Administrator

    Job description

    Job overview:

    The position involves the deployment, management, administration and support of turnkey solutions at customer sites. This is a full time position with a 3-month probationary period. Following an initial ramp-up period of 6 – 12 months, the person could potentially be placed at an overseas customer site.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Systems administration of VASTech turnkey solutions through project/contract life cycles.
    • Managing server and storage environments (Linux & Windows) including VMs.
    • Network administration – installing, configuring and maintaining network devices, routers and switches, TCP/IP, telecommunications, LAN, WAN, firewalls, etc.
    • Installation, configuration and support of VASTech and thirs party hardware and application software.
    • Installation, configuration and support Windows OS on servers, laptops, desktops and handheld devices.
    • Administering MS SQL Server, DHCP, DNS, Outlook, etc.
    • Administering of system backups and antivirus tools.
    • Administering and management of system monitoring tools.
    • Pre-deployment system and sub-system assembly, configuration and testing.
    • Onsite system installation and commissioning as per given design and implementation plans.
    • Onsite and back office system support during maintenance and upgrade activities, especially with deployment of releases with new features.
    • Logging, tracking and resolution of system faults and customer requests on official logging system.
    • Writing of system technical documentation and updating of site files and site logs.
    • Managing system spares on site as per the support manager’s requirement.
    • System testing in coordination with development and testing divisions.
    • Act as a communication and liaison link between customers and the company.
    • Weekly and monthly reporting depending on project phase.
    • Customer and internal training.
    • Technical project management.

    Education:

    Minimum: BTech

    Recommended: Microsoft MCSE/CCNA, Redhat Certified.

    Requirements / Knowledge / Skills:

    • Min 5 years previous experience in a similar role.
    • Managing larger server environments (Microsoft/Linux) and Linux Administration experience.
    • Monitor backups and resolution on errors.
    • Active Directory, DNS, DHCP.
    • Technical project management.
    • System change management, change control processes and procedures.
    • Incident and problem management.
    • Configuration management.
    • Availability management and system performance management.
    • Request management and system change management.
    • Experience with PHP/Python, and the ability to write administration scripts would be advantageous.
