    Senior C&I Engineer

    Job description

    Minimum Qualifications

    • B Eng / BSc Eng (Electronic, Electrical, Computer) or similar
    • Professional Registration
    • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer would be an advantage

    Experience Required

    • 12 or more years design experience on mining related projects.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to mining, including pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, basic engineering, detailed engineering, procurement, tender evaluation, construction quality assurance and commissioning.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to ship loaders and stacker/reclaimers.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to traffic control centres and toll plazas.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to bulk material handling.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to process plants.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to waste water treatment plants and pump stations.
    • Control & Instrumentation work relating to building management, access control and CCTV systems.
    • Design supervision and quality assurance of stock yard machines
    • C&I Discipline Skills
    • Process control system architecture design.
    • Preparation of control philosophies.
    • Preparation of functional requirement specifications for control systems.
    • Coordination and input to P&ID designs.
    • Preparation of instrumentation data sheets.
    • Preparation of C&I equipment specifications.
    • Preparation of C&I designs including loop drawings, termination schedules etc.
    • Participation in HAZOP, LOPA and risk studies.
    • PLC and SCADA software specification.

    Software Skills

    • Individual needs to be literate in Microsoft Office suite of software.
    • Individual needs to be literate in AutoCAD.
    • Individual needs to be an expert on Dessoft’s FDES, with at least 5 years design experience.

    • Attention to detail and quality of work (meticulous).
    • Able to interface with a team of technical people across several disciplines.
    • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Able to deal with change.
    • Ability to manage clients, suppliers and contractors.

    Travel Requirements

    • Based in Lynnwood, Pretoria.
    • Must be willing to travel for extended periods to foreign countries for manufacturing quality assurance purposes.
    • Must be willing to travel for extended periods to construction sites located in South Africa for construction quality assurance purposes.

    Management Responsibilities

    • Assume responsibility of Lead Engineer of medium to large projects (> R 750 000.00 man-hour fees)
    • Compile man-hour estimate budgets for projects.
    • Planning of own individual tasks as assigned by the Lead Engineer to tie in with the project schedule.
    • Planning of tasks to be allocated to designers and drafters.
    • Regular reporting against project program and budgets.
    • Reporting to Lead Engineer on deviation from plan and reasons for the deviation.
    • Effective use, compliance and improvement of C&I discipline standards

    Administrative Responsibilities

    • Ensure that all discipline documentation is prepared, circulated, approved, transmitted and filed in accordance with procedures.
    • Engineering design in accordance with established design standards and criteria for the project, including:
    • Checking and approval of finished drawings for full compliance with the intent of the design, specification and quality requirements all in accordance with drawing check lists.
    • Approve drawings in the capacity of Professional Engineer when required.
    • Revision co-ordination across disciplines and control by means of clear instruction to design team and approval of such revisions in accordance with change procedures.
    • Checking and approval of contractor furnished designs.
    • Pre-selection of equipment types to suit the project and final selection of actual equipment to be used, following the bid evaluation process.
    • Preparation of the technical content of enquiry documentation typically including a scope description, technical specification, drawings, datasheets and Bills of Quantity (BOQ)
    • Generate and maintain equipment schedules, BOQ, Material Take Offs (MTO's) and monitoring against control budgets.
    • Handling of site queries and providing site support as necessary.
    • Compile Commissioning, Operating and Maintenance Manuals.
    • Audits, inspections, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing.
    • On site commissioning activities as required.
    • Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Studies as required.

    Performance Goals

    • Achieve project margin targets as reported by financial system by performing all discipline work strictly according to budget and schedule in a cost effective manner whilst fulfilling the client’s technical requirements.
    • Demonstrate active and timely financial management and commercial acumen on all projects. Ensure the diligent completion of all financial management aspects of project delivery. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Negotiation skills (internal and external clients, labour rates and profit declaration).
    • Timely submission of weekly timesheets.
    • Verification of loaded budgets and labour rates as per proposal budget.
    • Actively manage client satisfaction and loyalty by delivering a solutions based approach to client service founded on a deep understanding of our clients and their businesses. Client satisfaction can be demonstrated by activities such as:
    • Demonstrating innovation, responsiveness, cost consciousness and an ease of doing business in all client engagements.
    • Achieve an inspiring and performance based culture through actively coaching and developing employees. People leadership will be demonstrated by completing the following activities as a minimum:
    • Delivery of timely and effective feedback and communication.
    • Clearly define expectations from team members, and provide constructive feedback on results.
    • Contribute to the Aurecon Eminence and Innovation framework by taking active steps to ensure your own technical development within a range of disciplines through contributing to and participating in associated forums and activities. This will include participation in both on the job and facilitated learning sessions and publication of thought technical articles.
    • Complete PL1xx learning sessions, at least 2/ annum.
