OUR PLATFORM

As a B2B platform company, the MFS Hub processes cross-border remittances, merchant payments, airtime top-ups, detects and prevents fraud, and runs a world-class back office. The daily running of all of these products and services are managed by the Operations team.

THE ROLE

• You will work with mobile network operators, money transfer organisations, financial institutions and other partners in the African continent and beyond. We are seeking a skilled, bright, experienced, energetic and motivated individual to help develop and create efficient operations systems and models in this area.
• The operations area is the intersection point where data reconciliations are performed, new capabilities on technology evolution are implemented and constant improvement from the customer support team meet. As a Senior Systems Engineer - Operations, you will be the technical point of contact in ensuring that these functions work harmoniously. You will be part of the team responsible for the operations of the technical backbone that connects these functions together to deliver our services on a daily basis.
• You will work with various mobile network operators, money transfer organisations, financial institutions and other partners that connect to the MFS Hub for the delivery of services. You will need to quickly learn the environment, be detail-oriented in picking up trends in traffic, services experience and consistently have an eye for improvement on what we do.
• We're looking for people with strong proven background in UNIX/LINUX-based systems usage, database systems, love tinkering on development and coding and most importantly, willing to learn new ways of doing things; have attention to detail and you're comfortable with taking ownership and delivering under pressure.

This position is based in Johannesburg.

Desired Skills and Experience:

JOB ACTIVITIES

• Own the technical aspects of MFS Operations by consistently applying best-practices on services delivery, both in process and in technology
• Be the escalation point from the Partner Support team as an advanced technical lead on Operations
• Work across multiple functions within the organization (finance, technology, partner support and product development), with the understanding of how multiple processes work with each other to fulfill various functions
• Create buy-in for adoption of technologies and/or methodologies on application of technology in the goal for constant operations improvement
• Contribute to the overall company technology strategy in crafting a path and motivating for the most appropriate use of technology in assisting the organization fulfil its daily core functions
• Provide technical support in ensuring that reconciliations are delivered on time; where appropriate propose and implement improvements on reconciliations processes
• Provide technical support to our clients on resolution of advanced technical queries as well as identifying and managing the resolution of systemic issues that may arise
• Provide technical support to the development team and lead the operations-focused code development stream on developing new operations capabilities or improving on existing ones
• Plan, manage, and implement operations aspects on the addition of new partners to the MFS Hub ecosystem
• Work with business analysts in optimizing data warehouse and BI to ensure that it meets business needs
• Work with our partners in the execution of respective planned works such as partner platform upgrades that impact our operations in order to achieve successful execution with minimal disruption to services

YOU MIGHT BE A RIGHT FIT IF YOU

• You hold a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Electronics or relevant field. A post-graduate in your technical area of interest is advantageous.
• Have a proven track record in database - MySQL, Oracle, SQL in PL/SQL or in administration role and are currently using any of these in your current role.
• Have a proven record in Java programming environment
• Have a proven record in LINUX/UNIX environment usage
• Have 5 - 10 years' professional experience
• Have a proven background in the advanced technical systems support of multiple services throughout your career. Leading to systems design is advantageous.
• Have a broad technical background including mobile technology, web, web services and back-end applications
• Have a track record of technical projects implementation within your chosen field. Previous involvement in their design is advantageous
• Are passionate about systems engineering, automating processes and enjoy seeing your work producing tangible outcomes
