Senior Systems Engineer at First Technology

Job description

First Technology is looking for a passionate Senior Systems Engineer who will partner with and ensure the long-term success of our customers.

The Senior Systems Engineer will deliver third line support and project services to a variety of customers, often out in the field, using Wintel, Virtualisation and Storage technologies in line with customer requirements.

Main duties and Responsibilities

• Identify and resolve complex incidents and perform root cause analysis
• Identify opportunities to extend the company’s service offerings
• Develop and enhance relationships and communication throughout the company with peers as well as individuals external to the company
• Push for automation, standardisation and repeatable quality
• Actively seek opportunities for value-add and upselling to existing customers
• Perform proactive optimisation and implement best practice
• Design and implement technology solutions up to the highest standards

Essential Experience

• Minimum 10 years’ overall experience in IT infrastructure
• Sound ITIL framework mind-set in terms of structured incident management, request management, change management, contractual scope alignment etc.
• Strong presentation and white-boarding skills and the ability to translate business requirements into technology solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable working in server rooms / datacentres racking, installing and cabling up kit
• At least 3 years’ experience in assisting project managers with the creation of proposals, project plans and managing one’s own work streams
• At least 3 years’ experience in creating and implementing technical designs
• Sound understanding of IP addressing, subnetting, VLANs, routing, firewall behaviour, packet shaping etc. to be able to place other technologies in context
• Intermediate experience with mass storage such as SANs, NASs
• Advanced experience with server hardware
• Advanced experience with Exchange
• Advanced experience with Microsoft Hyper-V
• Advanced experience with VMware vSphere 5.5 or above
• Advanced experience with Windows server features such as AD, DNS, DHCP, PKI, IIS etc.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

• VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5x
• Technical leadership experience
• Veeam Availability Suite
• Microsoft PowerShell scripting

Essential Qualifications

• MCSE 2012: Server Infrastructure
• VMware Certified Professional 5x

08:00 – 17:00

Occasional overtime for implementation of changes and small projects
