    Owner Process Accountant Control (EE)

    Job description

    An opportunity has become available in Financial Control. We are looking for an individual who will be responsible for ensuring that Barclays Africa fulfils its financial, statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, while ensuring compliance with accounting, regulatory and balance sheet control policy. Financial Control comprises the following areas: Accounting Control, Reporting & Analytics, Policy Governance & Controls, Technology Enablement, Cluster Control and Technical Accounting. Financial Control serves as the Group’s primary interface with the auditors and regulators.

    • Accounting Control owns the processes that enable sustainable, accurate and timeous financial information in support of reporting to external and internal stakeholders
    • Accountability: Managing end-to-end process across clusters (70%)
      • Ensure alignment of process with organizational strategy; take accountability for relevant processes within area of responsibility and ensure delivery and maintenance of standardized processes and controls
      • Owner of the end-to-end business process including defining the goals, objectives and KPI's, and performance management thereof
      • Plan, implement and develop operating procedures for relevant area and updating process documentation
      • Agree hand-ins and hand-offs with other process owners across FC
      • Constantly review and improve processes (automation included) to drive and implement a sustainable and effective process in support of quality and accuracy
      • Drive sustainable cost and processing efficiencies through continuous innovation, industry benchmarking and alignment to best practices
      • Act as escalation and decision point for operational decisions related to specific process, including issue resolution
      • Ensure cluster SMEs are aware of any issues in BAU process
      • Ownership of accounting control responsibilities for key FC initiatives that impact process.
      • Management of relevant executors of processes within ambit of control including co-ordination and management of capability and performance
      • Change Management including facilitating change in process within scope of deliverables
      • Identify process-specific risks and work with Process Architect to mitigate risks
    • Accountability: Lead a team of individuals to drive performance through motivation and
    • Employee engagement (30%)
      • Senior leadership role within FC, responsible for leadership, guidance and enablement of team, either directly, or as an SME where leadership and management responsibilities include that of significant influence across the
      • Financial Control function
      • Play role in strategic vision formulation process, in conjunction with Functional / Cluster Heads
      • Work closely with Architect to devise, formulate and execute on people management strategy for the area
      • Ability to mobilize teams to achieve business objectives.
      • Management of team, direct and / or indirect across spectrum of processes /functions.

    Ownership of people related matters, including, but not limited to:

    • Recruitment and Workforce Planning
    • Induction and o-boarding
    • Performance Management and Development, including Training
    • Day to day team / function / process management
    • Employee Relations and People administration
    • PD input for other process team members that assist on your process.

    Role / Person

    Specification

    Education and Experience Required

    • B degree/similar qualification in a financial/related discipline or CA(SA)
    • Non CA with 8 to 10 plus years relevant experience or CA with 6 to 8 plus years PQE (CA/SA preferred)
    • Extensive management experience essential (3-5 years of managing a team), or extensive experience as a SME with the ability to influence across teams, functions and processes
    • Business experience in a Banking environment gained from a Finance, Product
    • Management or Front /Middle office role preferable.
