    Technical Support Analyst (Unix/Linux Environment)

    Job description

Location Address: Johannesburg, Randburg 2160 South Africa (ZA)
Careers with CDK Global – where to next?
So who are we and what do we do?
CDK Global is the largest global provider of integrated information technology and digital marketing solutions to automotive dealerships and manufacturers in more than 100 countries worldwide for the world’s biggest car brands. Although we operate on a global scale, we are small by comparison and that is a good thing. It means that we are still a business where every person matters and where anyone can make an impact on our growth and success. We have opportunities in a wide range of business areas so wherever in the world you join us, you will get the support, training and tools you need to make significant steps forward in your career.
    What you’ll be doing?
You'll be providing technical support on our software, which is used by some of the biggest car brands and dealerships in South Africa. You'll be taking ownership of complex software related issues and troubleshooting them through to issue resolution. You’ll also take part in making our software better through fixing issues and working with our customers sometimes to do so.
You'll be working with other members of our Frontline Support Team to gather as much information from them as possible and to manage their expectations from case start through to case closure. There are no scripts and some of our issues are unknown. This means that you will need to have the drive to understand not only what the problem is but also identify the root cause of it.
We look for natural problem solvers and what’s great about us is that we don’t tier. This enables each team member to challenge their own thinking and develop their technical skills and knowledge through dealing with more and more complex software issues.
    On a daily basis you’ll be;

    • Taking direct ownership of software related issues through our case management system that involve the software environment (Unix) and programming language
    • Using a range of technology such as Apache, Oracle and Sales Force and our own object orientated programming language
    • Analysing and resolving complex software product issues, using analytical, technical or programming skills
    • Making initial contact with the customer who logged the issue to understand, gather information and try to recreate the issue
    • Managing a range of technical cases at any one time at all different complexities
    • Interpreting, debugging application code and isolating issues
    • Guiding, advising and coaching other team members and our customers on issue and problem resolution
    • Documenting solutions and producing written guidance on resolution steps and procedures
    • Reporting issues and recommending process improvements
    • Providing coaching and support to other analysts within the team on product and technical issues
    Who do we look for?

We look for people with the right cultural fit. That means being passionate and enthusiastic and having what it takes to drive our business forward. We also look for people who are keen to develop new knowledge and skills, because our growth is ultimately dependent on yours.

This might be the job for you if…

    • You have a degree in Computer Science. You’ll be breaking down complex software related issues and debugging code at times. You’ll be putting what you’ve learnt at university to the test through challenging your thinking and making our software better.
    • You enjoy solving problems. You’ll enjoy taking on difficult challenges and finding creative solutions to technical issues. If you don’t know the answer, you’ll dig until you find it. You will be a natural trouble shooter. You will not just enjoy figuring out the solution but also solving the root cause of the issue too.
    • You enjoy helping people. You’ll enjoy helping people through to issue resolution. Our customers may not be technical wizards so it’s all about talking to them on their level to help them.
    • You enjoy your tech. You’ll enjoy developing your existing tech knowledge and learning new things. You’ll enjoy learning about new product features and using a wide range of technology. We tend to look for people who may have some programming ability in an object orientated language such as C#. C++ or JavaScript. You will also need to have up to date Unix knowledge.
    What can we offer you?
To help us attract and retain the best, we pay people according to performance, not tenure. Excel in your role here and the rewards will be excellent too. We will also help you to grow your career, not only through focused investment in learning and development but also by enabling you to explore the opportunities our global market has to offer. Start your Journey with CDK Global.
