SC Johnson has an opportunity for a Trade Compliance Specialist – Sub Saharan Africa, based in Kenya, Nigeria or South Africa.

The internal job title at SC Johnson is Analyst/Senior Analyst – Trade Compliance – SSA.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Trade Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that the organization meets the requirements for importing/exporting goods in the region.

The Trade Compliance Specialist will take the responsibility for Sub Saharan Africa – primarily Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure that correct proof of origin is archived to support preferential trade agreements
• Populating SAP system with correct data for import/export operations
• Assist GTC regional and global teams in classifying products’ HTS (Harmonized Tariff System) codes
• Compile records to substantiate all claims
• Audit import/export Customs documentation to ensure accuracy of records; ensure corrective action.
• Lead the execution of trade compliance and logistics projects as required
• Monitor and advise logistics team on export/import practices in the region
• Proactively communicate regularly with the import brokers/freight forwarders on open issues
• Escalate serious or significant discrepancies immediately to the attention of the Manager
• Other GTC related responsibilities as needed

ESSENTIAL SKILL REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES / EXPERIENCE:

• Proven trade compliance experience with regional knowledge gained in practice
• Bachelor degree in or Bachelor Degree plus diploma in international trade for example Global Logistics, Supply Chain Planning, Political Sciences, International Relations, Economics, Law, or very similar
• Knowledge of HTS, INCOTERMs, country of origin rules, import/export laws and regulations
• Knowledge of the complexities of moving products across borders: international freight, duties, custom brokers, freight forwarders, and ocean/air carriers
• Self-starter with attention to details and ability to work independently
• Creatively seeking opportunities to improve processes
• Strong communication skills and the ability to execute professionally
• Problem solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to operate efficiently under continuous change
• Analytical skills (data interpretation is essential)
