Head of Mining/ COO

Remuneration

The cost to company for the position will be R 1 million.

Job Purpose

To work closely with the Chief Executive Officer to implement the strategic direction and performance objectives that relates to Mining and Mining Services divisions within the Group as well as to lead the effective implementation of performance targets and to ensure the success of the Mining division of Group.
As a member of the Executive/Operational Team, to foster teamwork, enhance internal and external communication and create a corporate culture within the Group.
To lead and manage efficiently and effectively the mining services of the Group.
To manage and grow the current Mining interest of the Group.

Requirements

A University Qualification in Mining and Hard Rock Managers ticket. A coal blasting certificate will be an added advantage.
Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills including dealing with labour unions
An understanding of how to achieve results in an operational environment including different methods of motivating a workforce.
Well-developed planning, marketing, organizational development and business skills.
Experience in business administration in a large and complex setting.
Sensitivity for and understanding of mining and resources disciplines and issues.
The ability to work with mining staff and professionals in multiple settings and locations and to promote diversity in the workplace.
Negotiation, engineering and technical analysis skills
Knowledge of Contract Mining as well as different types of contracts such FIDIC, NEC, JBB etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

To be responsible and accountable to the Chief Executive Officer for the effective and efficient delivery of all mining services.
To lead on mining efficiencies and service improvement work programmes, thereby drawing up standards of mining operations, productivity and value for money.
To work with the Executive/Operational Team to identify and nurture leadership potential and talent.
To manage and develop a high performing team of Site Managers and Mine Overseers who work to key performance indicators (Including their development, coaching and mentoring) and who are held accountable in terms of delivery.
To pro-actively develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
To work with the Chief Executive Officer to establish and manage external contracting and partnership relationships to pre-determined standards.
To contribute to the translation of strategy and corporate objectives into action plans and budgets as part of the overall planning process.
To develop, foster and encourage open and constructive relationships in public and professional settings.
To perform routine site audits on safety, quality and production KPI's.
To work with the Chief Executive and the Chief Financial Officer to ensure value for money is demonstrated and to ensure audit recommendations are implemented in a timely manner
