Actuarial Analyst at Santam Insurance

What will you do?

• An exciting career opportunity exist for an Actuarial Analyst who will be based in Cape Town, Bellville.

The services that the Actuarial Unit provides to the Business Unit involves:

• Pricing of reinsurance contracts.
• The assessment of reserves and interpreting / assessing the development of loss patterns
• A high-level audit of territories in which Santam re operates, that is to say to visit and engage with clients to serve as additional eyes that we are not missing anything
• To provide statistical and exposure analysis of the Santam portfolio, as well as its Underwriting managers, so that the Buying Unit can purchase the most cost effective reinsurance protection for Santam.
• To be constantly assessing what tools, disciplines can we deploy that will enhance our efficiency of operation, speed of performance and add value to our business proposition.

 
What will make you successful in this role?

• Develop dynamic financial analysis models in ReMetrica to optimise reinsurance structures of Santam, Santam re and the MGA’s in Santam.
• Identify any potential shortfalls in the reinsurance covers of Santam and SEM insurance investments.
• Benchmarking of reinsurance treaty terms against peer treaties.
• Assistance with actuarial analysis and pricing of inward reinsurance treaties of Santam Re as and when required.
• Identify reinsurance opportunities for Santam Re.
• Modelling of our reserves and monitoring their sufficiency.

 
Qualification and Experience

• Actuarial , Statistical or Mathematical degree
• At least 3 years’ experience preferably in short-term actuarial work within the Financial Services Industry.

Knowledge and Skills

• Proficiency in MS Word , MS Excel, MS Access, VB, or other data analytical tools
• Experience in dynamic financial analysis software such as ReMetrica will be beneficial.
• Excellent report writing and presentation skills
• High numerical with strong logical/analytical ability
• Self-starter – this person MUST be able to work on their own and look out for work and how to tackle new problems
