    Area Distribution Coordinator - Coastal

    Manage the execution, direction and coordination of all road transportation of fuel and lubricants matters within the organization. Area Distribution Coordinator plays a critical role in fulfilling Astron Energy’s promise to the customers of delivering fuel and lubricants on time, in full, safely and cost effectively.  Drive road transport safety and trucking assurance with haulers, to ensure adherence to regulatory framework and to Astron Energy’s SHEQ standards and requirement. Responsible for the execution of trucking efficiencies and truck optimization initiatives.
    Financial 

    • Execute the improvement of Fleet Operation’s processes; such as Product Returns and Minimum Order Quantities to drive efficiencies and optimized operations to achieve rate reduction & cost saving initiatives.
    • Collaborate with fleet analyst, sales teams, transporters, customer services center and the terminal teams.
    • Participate in fleet operations cost business plans by providing input, tactics and strategies that will inform the business plans, in collaboration with Fleet analyst, Procurement and Sales.
    • Monitor and manage with haulers in transit losses and ensure billing happens and recovery of value where losses are out of tolerance and are due to hauler fault. 
    • Collaborate with haulers and terminal managers
    • Provide expert advice in rate negotiations as conducted by procurement with haulers during RFP and throughout the hauler contract duration.
    • Advise Procurement and the Fleet operations team when there are improper rates charged by haulers.

    Customer 

    • Implement identified Customer Delivery Reliabilities (CDR) – On Time (OT) initiatives to meet customer expectation in fuel delivery on time.
    • Drive the execution of hauler RTS initiatives (e.g. adherence to truck maintenance / Integrity programs; driver performance, meeting of agreed delivery SLA’s; meeting of safety requirements etc.) to ensure that deliveries to customers meet On Time Delivery Reliability requirement.
    • Implement enhanced communication solutions with strategic customers to ensure On Time deliveries and efficient operations.
    • Advise Sales department regarding customer site configurations during tank and or site builds on appropriate location of fuel filler points, of fuel tanks and ingress/egress of bulk fuel trucks – to ensure safe, quick and efficient deliveries of fuel into customer sites.
    • Lead management of change and onboarding of the transporter when a new customers are secured and when changing transporters to ensure customer experience a smooth transition.
    • Provide expert advice and knowledge to sales teams during their business development and tender processes on issues of road transportation of fuel (e.g. costs, routes, regulatory requirements etc.)
    • Collaborate with Fleet team; Procurement; Sales, Terminal teams, Supply; Haulers, Security, customer service center and other support functions to ensure customer deliveries continue safely and reliable during supply interruptions such as product shortages, strike etc.

    Business Excellence 

    • Implement identified Customer Delivery Reliabilities (CDR) In Full (IF); initiatives to meet customer expectation in fuel delivery in full.
    • Implement simplification & improvement opportunities with regards Fuel Order Fulfilment, Minimum Order Quantities etc. to ensure efficiencies and optimized operations.
    • Collaborate with Legal, Corporate Affairs in matters where regulatory and legislation changes could affect our industry and the way we do business.
    • Collaborate with Procurement in negotiations leading to changes in commercial relationships; e.g. RFP, rate negotiation etc.
    • Collaborate with the business in generating strategies road transportation of fuel.

    SHEQ

    • Lead Hauler incident investigations (incl. loading, driving and offloading) to ensure clear root causes, effective corrective actions and good quality outcome which will ensure incident reduction & or prevention of repeat incidents.
    • Drive the implement of corrective actions with haulers.
    • Enforce the implementation of Road Transport Safety and Motor Vehicle Safety with haulers, using developed tools, systems and processes.
    • Conduct loading, driving and off-loading observations in the field to drive operational discipline, incident reduction and safe operations
    • Conduct vehicle inspections to verify that the haulers are adhering to agreed Operating and Truck Standards
    • Participate in Hauler conference activities and present on key topics to drive operational excellence in incident reduction and road transport safety management.

    Audit & Risk

    • Participate in annual / periodic Trucking assurance and Road Transportation Safety risk / self-assessment.
    • Lead and conduct Road Transport Safety Audits / Assessment with transporters; identified areas of improvements / gaps and drive implementation of gap closure plans.
    • Collaborate with the Transport Safety Specialist in annual reviews of Road Transport Safety Assessment checklist / questionnaire (Responsibility and Accountability, Journey Planning, Driver Selection and Health, Driver Training; Driver Behaviour-Based Safety; Vehicle Selection and Maintenance; Vehicle Operating Standards; Monitoring Performance & Contract Requirements).

    Required Qualifications: 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or in Supply Chain Management or in Commerce
    • Certification in Road Transportation of Fuel or Logistics or Road Transport Safety of Road Transport Safety Auditing is an added advantage.

    Preferred Qualification:  

    • 3-5 years works experience in Logistics, Transportation, Distribution
    • Petro chemical industry would be an advantage

    Knowledge and Skills: 

    • Good knowledge and understanding of South African regulations including, but not limited to National Road Traffic Act, Dangerous Goods Transportation Act, Hazardous Goods & Chemicals Transportation Act
    • Good understanding and knowledge of Road Transport Safety; SANS (Transportation of dangerous goods); Public Safety and Security; Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment systems and procedures
    • Knowledge of Transport/Fleet Management Systems, Technologies and Equipment
    • Project management
    • Fleet Optimization and routing
    • Complex Analytical Thinking, Troubleshooting and Problem Solving
    • Strong communication and leadership skills
    • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with others
    • Strong negotiation skills
