Perform complex structural engineering designs, calculations, and analyses of water-retaining structures, penstocks and pipelines with key contributions on 3D models, technical drawings and details, project specifications and Bills of Quantities.
Assist and support dam safety inspections and build up the Approved Professional Person (APP) on concrete dams within the structural design team.
Assist in preparing and coordinating tenders/bids and contribute to winning work initiatives.
Contractual and commercial acumen and assist in the management of construction contracts.
Ensure timely delivery of projects, within scope and budget.
Establish a clear understanding of the project goals and stakeholder expectations, specifically, managing client expectations and ensuring that delivery meets expectations.
Lead and coordinate small, medium, and integrated projects including management of delivery teams, and reporting on budgets and schedules, and maintaining team morale.
Provide input on other key deliverables on projects, such as technical reports, specifications, and bills of quantities.
Be a team player that is willing to collaborate across multiple disciplines and international geographies.
Establish initial project schedules and regularly maintain project schedules.
Act as senior project-level point of contact for external and internal clients.
Motivate the project team towards the determined objectives, by generating enthusiasm for the project, and by maintaining a continued personal interest in achieving set targets.
Minimum requirements
BEng or BSc Degree in Civil Engineering. A postgraduate degree in Structural Engineering will be advantageous.
Professional registration with ECSA (Mandatory).
Minimum of 10 years’ water retaining structure-related design experience, including but not limited to pump stations, water storage reservoirs, water treatment and wastewater treatment plants, as well as a good understanding of geotechnical engineering.
Experience in structural design of Dam related structures and Hydropower plants will be considered advantageous.
Experience on dam safety inspections and registration as an APP will be considered advantageous.
Proficiency in the following:
Design software; Finite Element Analysis e.g. Prokon Suite, Strand 7, CSI Safe, Dlubal RFEM 5 / RFEM 6.
Drawing / Draughting software; Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D (Advantageous).
Project Management; MS Projects, strong MS Excel ability.
Full-time construction-related experience in water infrastructure engineering projects (minimum period of one year) will also be an advantage.
Experience as a project manager in the client space (as the client’s representative or representing the consultant to the client) will be an advantage.
Willing to travel for projects (local and international).
