    Asst Supervisor OHNP

    Minimum Required Qualification:

    • NQF 7/8 Diploma in General Nursing /Degree in nursing (BA Cur/B Tech)
    • Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing Science As per SANC professional qualification registration framework
    • Professional Registration with the South African Nursing Council
    • At least 2 years Clinical work experience in Occupational Health Care environment

    The Appointee should:

    • Medically fit to work in the specific business area
    • Clear security screening record
    • Valid driver’s license (if applicable)

    Advantageous Qualifications:

    • Midwifery/Psychiatry/Community Health Nursing / Administration / Education.
    • Certificate in ICD 10 Coding
    • Professional registration with SASHON

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Professional Practice -• Practice as an Occupational Health Nursing Practitioner (OHNP) within a team of professionals that includes, but is not limited to the Ergonomist, Hygienist, Occupational Medical Practitioner (OMP), HRM Employee Assistant Programme (EAP) practitioners and safety professionals.
    • Ethical Practice -• Use ethical principles and moral reasoning for decisionmaking in practice. • Demonstrate competence in dealing with ethical and health rights challenges in own area of practice.
    • Legal Practice -• Identify legislation and policy guidelines relevant to occupational health nursing. • Analyse and interprets legislation relevant to the workplace to the benefit of the employer and the employee.
    • Health Promotion & Prevention -• Use a primary healthcare strategy for promoting health at all levels of care. • Promote health communication and health literacy for behaviour change.
    • Conduct a health surveillance to identify and evaluate health needs of workers in the workplace. Conduct a health risk assessment in the workplace to determine workplace stressors and the impact on employees.
    • Diagnosis -Utilise data collected during the assessment phase to make a nursing diagnosis related to occupational diseases and hazards.
    • Care Planning -Develop within a team approach care plans for the worker based on the diagnosis to prevent, treat, manage, and refer occupational and other diseases.
    • Implementation -Apply emergency management at the time of the injury or illness. Coordinate and manage the care of ill and injured workers. Manage occupational injuries and diseases to minimise residual deficit.
    • Evaluation -Identify the need for referral and linkage to care for Physical, Mental and or social issues and registration into disease management programmes (State and or medical schemes for the following health related issues: Non communicable diseases, communicable diseases, and occupational diseases i.e., HIV, TB, STI, alcoholism, substance abuse, chronic diseases, psychosocial conditions, shift work, vulnerable groups such as healthcare workers, violence, and executive health management.
    • Quality Improvement -• Ensure continued delivery of quality OH services. • Develop methods of quality assessment in the OH clinic and settings.
    • Continuing Education -• Assume accountability for own professional development to enhance professional growth and maintain competency. • Evaluate continually own practice using professional standards and other quality improvement mechanisms to identify areas of strength as well as areas where development is necessary
    • Management and Leadership -• Serve as a role model and mentor for others.
    • Research -• Participate in research to contribute to the scientific knowledge base in occupational and environmental health nursing and advances the profession.
    • ESG Compliance -• Align to international responsible mining principles.
    • SHE Compliance -• Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.
    • Focus on safe production & operational excellence -• Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence
    • People Management -• Serves as a role model and mentor for others.
