BIS Superintendent – System Development (Middelburg) at Samancor Chrome

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• To manage the development, implementation and maintenance of Chrome Systems in order to provide operational information to meet business requirements and make informed business decisions

• Identify and assess level of issue based risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
• Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
• Manage SHEQ compliance within the Section through effective use of the Toolbox
• Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

PEOPLE

Manage the Section:

• Ensure an enabling climate/culture
• Manage labour stability by minimising labour turnover
  • Labour complement in line with budget
  • Achieve HDSA/Female targets for the Section
• Manage performance against set targets and competencies
  • Ensure IDP’s are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan
• Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly)
• Ensure discipline is maintained (absenteeism, lateness, overtime, misconduct, etc.)
• Coach and counsel people to ensure improved performance levels
• Conduct recruitment interviews

CUSTOMERS 

• Manage relationships with key stakeholders
• Conduct customer audits and satisfaction surveys
• Maintain and improve relationships with key suppliers

BUSINESS PROCESSES 

IT & MES Strategy, Leadership & Governance:

• Provide input to the Samancor Chrome IT strategy in line with business requirements

Policies, Procedures:

• Develop and update application development Policies, Procedure, Standards, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc.
• Implement application development Policies, Procedure, Standards, Protocols, Work Instructions, Codes of Practice, etc.
• Review Chrome IT standards annually and identify opportunities for improvements

IT Management:

• Ensure standardisation of software, hardware, development tools and database architectures across Business Units
• Oversee and manage 3rd party service providers as per SLA’s

System Development (MES and other):

New Developments:

• Liaise with the Business Units to identify business requirements
• Compile application development Scopes Of Work
• Manage application development projects related to implementation of or changes to the Business Process
• Compile application development technical specifications
• Develop applications as per technical specifications

Continuous Improvement:

• Liaise with the Business Units to identify opportunities for improvement of current systems
• Identify and define new application development requirements resulting in the establishment of projects
• Implement CI initiatives

System Support:

• Manage application development support
• Provide a 24 hr support function to end-users
• Liaise with service providers as required
• Administer the developed application systems security
• Resolve developed application System user's problems

Data availability:

• Develop and update the developed application system’s back-up strategy
• Develop the Disaster Recovery Strategy to ensure Business Continuity

IT Systems :

• Install and configure a multi-user networked operating system
• Test Networked IT systems against given specifications

Requirements

Minimum qualifications: 

• Degree or National Diploma in Information Technology
• 6 years’ relevant experience, preferably 2 years’ managerial experience
