Blaster (Gauteng and Kathu) at Afrimat

Minimum Qualifications / Experience

• Grade 12 National Senior Certificate with mathematics
• DMRE Opencast Blasting Ticket
• MQA Surface Rock Breaking Certificate. 01/07/2009 to 31/05/2017
• Minimum of 5 years’ drilling and blasting experience and managing a team
• Experience with the use of electronic and pyrotechnic initiation systems
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
• Planning and detailed execution of plans
• Safety driven, effective multi – tasking and problem-solving skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Proficient in Blast map III Blasting Software
• Able to multitask
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to):

• Designing of blasts according to specific parameter requirements
• Blasting scheduling to ensure that workplace safety, explosives handling, storage, and transport protocols are adhered to
• Ordering of explosives and loading explosives into blast holes
• Manage drill rig production, drilling space and bench preparation
• Implementing shift rosters and supervising the team
• Completing blast reports and ensuring legal compliance
• Compiling contractor packs, work permits and maintaining records
• Perform other duties as assigned by their manager
• Be willing to travel to other sites and operations
• Establishing sound relationships with all stakeholders
• Providing leadership and mentorship to team and modelling the Afrimat Way
