    Business Development Consultant - Government and International Development

    Description

    Euromonitor International is the world’s leading independent provider of strategic and tactical market research. We create data and analysis on thousands of products and services around the world.

    You will be responsible for targeting new organisations in the public sector across your territory. You are likely to be a highly self-motivated international development professional, with a proven track record in designing programs to achieve development outcomes or managing donor relations to obtain funding.

    You will provide commercial support for our research operations, establishing Euromonitor International as the key provider for information within international development and government space in sub-Saharan Africa, whether through our annual research program (Passport) or through customized research engagements. You will also work to develop our positioning as a consulting partner of choice, working closely Euromonitor’s broader team to conceptualize and design programs and implement funding strategies. Finally, you will be responsible for catering to inbound opportunities, qualifying requests and RFPs against set criteria and leveraging the relationships you built to give us a competitive advantage for each bid.

    For example, you may help a national tourist board to better understand how changing travel flows and traveller expectations can be leveraged to support the local economy, or alternatively you may identify bid possibilities for helping a country invest wisely in staple crops, but funded by international development organisations. Sometimes the solution you recommend will be existing published content, other times you will respond to established briefs, frequently you will be helping clients see there are circumstances they need to react to and Euromonitor have the capabilities to help them react effectively. You’ll have the tenacity, drive, commercial awareness and persuasiveness to find the right contacts, understand the client’s issues, and match and apply the benefits in your solution.

    Typical international development projects run by Euromonitor include:

    • Global Market Sizing of Digital Payments for MSME Retailers (World Bank, 2015)

    • Baseline summary of the Women’s Economic Empowerment in 17 Arab Countries (UN Women, 2016)

    • Export Market Development of Fresh Fruit for Central Asian Countries (GIZ, 2018)

    • Opportunities for Fair Trade Coffee in Kenya (Enabel, 2018)

    • Incentives and Disincentives for reducing sugar in Manufactured Food (WHO, 2017)

    This role requires 20% travel.

    The main purpose is:

    • To maximise revenues from government and trade organisations by adopting a proactive approach that focuses on client success.

    • To promote Euromonitor International and our services to the government and trade organisations

    Key responsibilities

    • Identify and target key organisations within a territory based on partnership potential and fit with Euromonitor’s products and strategy.

    • Network within these organisations to identify effective client sponsors to support our sales agenda, working closely with these stakeholders to further engage decision makers, budget holders, influencers, etc

    • Organise engagements with these organizations (product demonstrations, capability pitches, knowledge sharing session) in a way that yields insight on potential use-cases for our products and solutions. Document client knowledge to support the “One Euromonitor” approach to sales

    • Support the consulting team in preparing proposals to respond to tenders.

    • Negotiate and close sales

    • Identify and work with consortia, proactively working with your consulting partners to pre-identify potential partners

    • Attend key conferences and exhibitions

    • Liaise closely with Marketing team to develop effective strategy for the territory

    Requirements

    To succeed in this role, you will need:

    • The ability to create and build relationships

    • A creative and proactive approach to selling

    • A strategic mindset, comfortable managing long sales cycles.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills

    • Strong organisational skills

    • Strong presentations skills

    • Confidence in face to face and telephone sales negotiations

    • To be results orientated and capable of meeting and exceeding commercial sales targets.

    • Experience of business information sales, selling to public sector, selling to academic sector or publishing is desired. However, candidates with work history on the client-side (donor relations, program design, project management etc) and a desire to balance this with private sector experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

    • Fluency in any of the following languages would be advantageous - French, Swahili

    • Educated to Degree Level as a minimum, ideally with a Master’s Degree.
