    Business Development Coordinator

    Business Development Coordinator

    The Business Development Coordinator, Banking & Finance (BDC B&F) is responsible for working with the relevant Business Development Manager (BDM) and Practice and Sector Groups to support and implement innovative short and long term BD strategies, tactics and activities that will support the Firm’s Practice Groups/ Sectors/ Departments/ and/or Service Lines (the Legal Teams) and drive the Firm’s strategy forward.

    Experience and Qualifications:

    • Completed Degree/ Diploma in a relevant field required
    • At least 3 years’ experience in business development or a related field within a corporate, legal or professional services environment essential

    Key Accountabilities and Activities:

    • Work with Practice Group Heads (PGHs), Senior BD Management, BDMs and other BDCs to articulate and implement the Legal Teams’ business development objectives.
    • Keep track of and prepare monthly BD status reports as well as monthly deal reports ahead of both monthly PGH and Management Board meetings.
    • Coordinate ongoing Legal Teams meetings, as required and summarise and drive completion of action points emanating from those meetings.
    • Brief and provide specialist support and guidance to the New Business Team (NBT) on pitches, tenders, credential statements, RFPs and the like as well as client briefing notes.
    • Assist with updating and maintaining marketing collateral including: individual profiles; deal / matter information; practice overviews and accolades. 
    • Prepare and maintain annual BD budgets and related expenses.
    • Assist with development and implementation of innovative infrastructure systems to best support the Legal Teams’ activities.
    • Gather, centralize and maintain Legal Teams’ credentials lists for use in submissions and other materials/ marketing collateral. 
    • Preparation of billing realisation report. 
    • Develop and maintain collaboration between BD and Knowledge Management.
    • Coordination of firm-wide BD initiatives including: hosting of client events (seminars; webinars; client hospitality); event sponsorships; roadshows (local, international and African); client newsflashes and other thought leadership (articles; guides); and leveraging any Legal Teams memberships.
    • Maintain and update client information (ing of InterAction (IA) system. Generally encourage the use of IA with Legal Teams
    • Coordination, planning and working with the Events Team through the life cycle of campaigns/ events.
    • Support initiatives to raise both internal and external profile of the Legal teams.
    • Draft and support Legal Directory and Award Submissions as well as coordinating the follow-up interviews.
    • Stay up to date on both current affairs and the competitive environment impacting relevant Legal Teams.
    • Briefing and offering guidance to the Research Coordinator to analyse internal data to prepare annual Legal Team trend reports and provide ad hoc assistance as required.
    • Overall project management of BD campaigns and initiatives as required.

    Relationship Building

    • Develop and maintain relationships with all levels of staff and across the various Bowmans offices and alliance firms as a trusted resource.
    • Maintain strong working relationships with and have open and transparent communication with the Legal Teams as well as the broader BD team.
    • Work closely with the senior BD management team to ensure alignment in our overall BD and client approaches.
    • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with other law firms, clients, think tanks and professional services firms.

    Teamwork

    • Collaborate with the other BD functions: the NBT, Research, the Client Development Team and the Marketing and Communications Team.
