    Cambridge Subejct Specialist - Y11 Geography

    DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

    Teaching:

    • Regular contact with students to encourage, motivate and empower them to achieve their best.
    • Employ a variety of dynamic teaching and instructional methodologies, with the aid of edtech tools.
    • Support with intervention planning within your subject to develop appropriate teaching solutions and strategies that target learner needs that arise as they progress through the course.
    • Implementing responsive intervention based on students’ progress.
    • Work closely with the Faculty Lead, Support Coach and Support Lead to monitor at risk learners. 
    • Report on the effectiveness of planned interventions (according to our remediation policy which uses RTI) and employ bespoke remediation strategies to enable student academic progress.
    • Using subject specifications to ensure that the quality of grading meets the required examination standards.
    • Review holistic performance of students on a regular basis.
    • Facilitate and participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, clubs and student organisations.
    • Develop Cycle tests and examinations.
    • Work with our Support Coaches, Student Experience Leads and Student Well-Being to oversee the progress of all students on Individual Support Plans within the allocated student group.
    • Take ownership of learners enrolled in your subject, and monitor their academic performance using data and metrics aligned with key performance indicators (KPIs). 
    • Work closely with the Product team to improve content, using data analysis and best practice in your subject grouping.
    • Moderate submissions that contribute to learner progress.
    • Using subject specifications to ensure that the quality of grading meets the required examination standards.

    Development: 

    • Develop educational content from scratch, making use of various sources, into a richly augmented format that meets online delivery objectives
    •  Research and source appropriate reference materials for the development of courses
    • Design and create targeted continuous assessment strategies that support students in their progression towards their summative examinations
    • Using subject specifications to ensure that content meets the required examination standards, peer-review cycle tests and exam papers, as well as determine the efficacy and suitability of content.
    • Conduct planning and analysis per subject area to recommend appropriate design solutions and strategies for online delivery.
    • Transfer textbook-based content into a richly augmented format that meets online delivery objectives. 
    • Consult on the course evaluations process to ensure that feedback is channelled into the Learning Design team according to the ADDIE model. 
    • Using subject specifications to ensure that content meets the required examination standards, peer-review cycle tests and exam papers, and determine the efficacy and suitability of content.
    • Work with project management and various operational stakeholders to ensure that deadlines are adhered to and that project communication takes place in a timely and effective manner.

    Task-management:

    • Update student records with socio-emotional, behavioural and academic insights gained through learner interactions. 
    • Meet regularly with the Faculty Lead, Support Lead and Support Coaches to  monitor at risk learners. 
    • Take ownership of learners enrolled in your subject, and monitor their academic performance using data and metrics aligned with key performance indicators (KPIs). These KPIs primarily reference a learner’s demonstrated learning gain as a result of the department’s guidance and support.
    • Regularly attend learner progress and intervention tracking meetings.
    • Manage the posting of announcements to the online campus, and respond to discussion forum posts made by learners. 

    Community of practise:

    • Engage in lesson observations to maintain quality assurance of instruction in line with Valenture’s Teaching and Learning approach and to enable personal and peer improvement through feedback, coaching and mentorship.
    • Regular professional development sessions to develop a deep knowledge of the most recent advances of research in the subject you teach, as well as the research on how something can be taught and learned.
    • Engage in the systemic integration of scientific educational knowledge, didactics (or pedagogical content knowledge), and practice to enable Learning Facilitators to enhance their pedagogical thinking, evidence-based decision making, and engagement in the professional community of educators.

    Requirements

    Key requirements for the role:

    • Teaching or tutoring experience at secondary school level, with either BEd, PGCE  or relevant qualification.
    • 3+ years of experience, preferred.
    • 1+ year experience teaching AS/A level in the relevant curriculum and subject 
    • Cambridge International Marking will be an advantage 
    • Demonstrated experience in working effectively with young people to promote their individual academic potential.
    • Adept in a technological environment.
    • Operationally savvy. 
    • Strong administrative and record-keeping skills.
    • Experience working with assessment data and operational data. 
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
    • Must be comfortable working remotely and independently. 
    • Stable internet connection.
    • Police clearance required.
    • SACE registration or eligible to apply for SACE

    Tech requirements:

    • A second screen.
    • A stable internet connection (minimum of a 20mbps line).
