At UCT Online High School we want to provide our learners with the necessary skills, resources and opportunities to succeed in tertiary studies. The Career Services Manager plays an integral role in making this a reality for our UCT Online High School learners. The Career Services Manager is responsible for developing and managing the learner career services offering. They are responsible for guiding learners through subject selection, career exploration and identification and tertiary education opportunities.
Career Guidance
Subject and career guidance webinars
Coordinate and host UCT Virtual Open days
Coordinate and host Grade 9 and 10 subject choice webinars
Coordinate and host webinars with inspirational guest speakers and industry experts from different fields in order to help learners embrace a rapidly changing world
Subject and career guides and services
Develop subject choice guides to support learners in selecting their subjects for FET Phase
Maintain accessible career resources for learners, support coaches and teachers
Partner with career guidance providers and/or platforms to provide career guidance at scale
Career counselling
Provide group career guidance to UCT Online High School learners to support them in subject selection and tertiary education
Conduct individual career counseling with students including assessment of interests, values and skills
Job shadowing
Research, identify, engage, and sustain opportunities for learners’ job shadowing and internships
Tertiary education support
University readiness
Research, identify, engage, and sustain opportunities to prepare learners for university
Research, identify, and engage opportunities to create National Benchmark Test (NBT) preparation courses
University applications
Support learners in matching subjects choices and grades to university study and career opportunities at scale
Coordinate and host university application guidance webinars
Coordinate special assistance with UCT applications with UCT Faculty
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or Education
3+ years’ experience in a Guidance Counselor role is preferential.
Experience working with secondary students would be advantageous.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to efficiently balance both administrative and support services.
Integrity and professionalism.
Advocacy skills.
Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student pool.
Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources.
Ability to collect and analyse data.
Sound judgement and emotional intelligence.
Operationally savvy.
