    Chief Information Officer: Claims, Sales & Services and Underwriting

    Detailed Description
    Critical Objectives And Responsibilities

    • Responsible for the Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting infrastructure, enterprise development and strategic projects to ensure that IT strategy and architecture work are grounded in reality based on current and future organisational requirements.
    • Responsible for aligning IT Strategy and IT Service Delivery with the above business strategy and the OMI IT Strategy.
    • Championing Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting wide governance on technology related decisions.
    • Mapping out the above IT architecture’s medium to long term roadmap, including the investments needed to deliver. Aligning as required from an OMI strategy perspective.
    • Working with OMI Software Engineering to ensure that the architecture capability is sufficient to support the above IT strategy.
    • Contributing to the OMI Information Security Strategy and ensuring that this is relevant to the above divisons and then delivering in elements of that strategy.
    • Ensures that there is clear assessment of IT risks and that appropriate mitigating action is being taken across the Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting Environment
    • Accountable for the development & execution of above IT strategy over periods of 1 to 3 years.
    • Integrates delivery and metrics across the people, process, finance and customer dimension of the business.
    • Member of the OMI IT Leadership Team, provides clear direction and leadership to own team, and delivering the benefit to Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting
    • Develop and manage Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting’s IT budget in line with strategic deliverables.
    • Contributes to identification of strategic technology suppliers for Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting and OMI and ensures that relationships with them are managed at the right level.
    • Play a leading role in identifying strategic suppliers for shared technology platforms and supporting implementation within Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting.
    • Lead and gain agreement for the Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting IT strategy that underpins the medium- and long-term business strategy.This will include a focus on how to best step change and make the right strategic technology choices to build future IT capability.
    • Motivates and presents recommendations to Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting Manco and where necessary Exco and appropriate boards and governance forums.
    • Keep abreast with Old Mutual Insure’s competitors, locally and internationally, in terms of how they are deploying technology for competitive advantage.
    • Remain on top of key technology and new technology developments and their implications and opportunities they present.
    • Responsible for defining strategies to ensure that the business extracts value propositions through IT.
    • Responsible for providing technology advice for key Claims, Sales and Services and Underwriting and OMI strategies and strategic initiatives.

    Continuous improvement to ensure effective service

    • Ensure statutory and legislative knowledge is always current in order to resolve customer complaints, to advise the business on corrective solutions to mitigate risks and to improve the customer experience whilst complying with governance requirements.
    • Ensure adherence to organisational policies, practices and procedures.
    • Identify solutions to enhance cost control, increase operational efficiency and manage operating budget goals .

    Service delivery to ensure customer satisfaction

    • Maintain service, quality and desired outputs across the business process by ensuring compliance to tactical policies, procedures and standards.
    • Establish productive operational relationships with key stakeholders in the various channels and administrative teams.
    • Develop work routines in line with operational plans / schedules in order to manage achievement of service delivery goals.
    • Share knowledge on, and participate in the creation of new standards, control systems and procedures to enhance service delivery.

    Ensure cost efficiency through financial and corporate governance

    • Responsible for the development and implementation of fit for purpose budgets.
    • Responsible for managing supplier relationships, and budgets associated with projects.

    Job Requirements

    • Relevant IT/Commerce degree, relevant post graduate qualifications is preferable.
    • Minimum of 10 years’ experience leading an IT function, at least 5 years of this experience should be at a senior level.
    • Short Term Insurance Industry experience is preferable.

    The appointment will be made from the designated group in line with the Employment Equity Policy of Old Mutual Insure.
