Chief Surveyor at Sasol

Purpose of Job

• To control operational surface survey-related work for all shafts of mine and control activities of surveyors to adhere to regulations as stipulated under Mines Health and Safety Act (MHSA) guidelines.

Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

• Execute Mineral rights requirements pertaining to surface e.g.: 
• Prospecting boreholes 
• Rescue boreholes 
• Surface subsidence 
• Servitudes and services 
• Rehabilitation 
• Water monitoring and supply 
• Liaise with surface rights owners 
• Monitor surface structures 
• Assists with undermining applications and surface erection permissions 
• Coordinate and control surface surveying to ensure all surface structures and infrastructure are recorded on the statutory plans and that planned structures are placed in the correct positions on site. 
• Achieve equipment integrity of ,% by executing procurement and equipment maintenance duties while controlling cost for the department 
• Achieve legal compliance of % by coordinating and controlling activities of surveyors to ensure that the mine complies with the regulations as stipulated under Chapter on the Mines Health and Safety Act (MHSA) 
• Carry out Planned task observations; risk assessments; indabas; safety talks. 
• Achieve accuracy of stock calculations of % and governance of coal sales to Synfuels by measuring stockpiles and executing volumetric calculations. 
• Design Mine layouts to ensure geophysical conditions are maintained so that the mine complies with the MHSA 
• Achieve results at Measuring day + by compiling Month end production bonus calculations and inputs into SAP and communicate results for governance purposes. 
• Governance and legal compliance (audit and inspections): 
• Implement a Safe Making Behavior by making it a standing point on morning meetings and Indabas 
• Conduct water measurements Dams, Monitor holes and Spoil Discharges monthly where applicable 
• Ensure value chain alignment 
• Compile offline Mining Safety Meetings, Indabas and Reserve Utilization Report 
• Establish & sustain SHE processes (OHSAS & ISO 
• Conduct special surveys (Primary and Secondary development) 
• Liaison with service and support functions and ensure service level agreements are adhered to 
• Achieve customer satisfaction of >% by liaising with all interested and affected departments (including shaft management at all shafts on survey related aspects) 
• Comply to product requirements no more than days delay on job requests (Surface surveys and Rescue boreholes) 
• Achieve accurate, on time reporting by compiling and communicating Daily Production to management for monitoring and corrective action. 
• Ensure continuous improvement including process and results optimization 
• Improved reserve optimization Final measurements in any Section and signing off by Geologist if necessary 
• Improve D Modelling by getting coaching from Survey Draughts person 
• Stay up to date with industry trends (Surveying & Draughting by attending quarterly IMSSA meetings)

• BTech in Mineral Resource Management
• BSc in Mine Surveying
• COM: Advanced Surveying Certificate

Min Experience

• Experience: 8+ relevant years
