    Clinic Research Assistant - Somkhele

    Description

    The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) seeks 2 Clinic Research Assistants who will be based at Hluhluwe Clinic. The successful candidates will work across various studies that are conducted at the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Satellite Sites within the Heald and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS). The successful candidates will be primarily responsible for the implementation of the study protocols - They will be the first point of contact with potential study participants within the clinics. The successful candidates will be expected to follow procedures according to study protocols and to provide high quality clinical support to participants and other clients. The successful candidate will report directly to the allocated clinics at Hluhluwe Clinic on regular basis unless advised otherwise by the Line Manager. The role may require incumbent to work outside of normal hours, Public Holidays & Weekend as and when required by the study especially for follow-ups of the study participants.

    Overview of Duties

    • Implement the CTU Satellite Sites studies protocol, including evaluation of the role of tongue swabs to optimize TUTT implementation - an observational study (TUTTPLUS) and Opti-DOR study recruiting HIV newly diagnosed patients.
    • Recruit participants from the clinics and refer them to the nurse for consent.
    • Build and maintain relationships with DOH staff where participants will be recruited.
    • Collection and capture of data.
    • Carry out any other duties as directed by Line Manager

    Minimum Requirements

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
    • Computer Literacy Certification (Microsoft Office Suite).
    • Fluency in English and IsiZulu

    Minimum Experience

    • Research experience in a clinical setting (hospital/clinic-based research)

    Required Skills

    • Basic counselling and interviewing skills.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
    • Knowledge of and experience in TB treatment and care 
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, flexible and a good team player.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • Well organized and possession of the ability to plan effectively and efficiently. 
    • Ability to work independently and show initiative.

    Advantageous

    • Valid South African driver's license with a minimum of 2-years driving experience.
