    Clinic Research Assistant - Somkhele

    Description

    The Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) seeks 2 Clinic Research Assistants who will be based at Hluhluwe Clinic. The successful candidates will work across various studies that are conducted at the Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) Satellite Sites within the Heald and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS). The successful candidates will be primarily responsible for the implementation of the study protocols - They will be the first point of contact with potential study participants within the clinics. The successful candidates will be expected to follow procedures according to study protocols and to provide high quality clinical support to participants and other clients. The successful candidate will report directly to the allocated clinics at Hluhluwe Clinic on regular basis unless advised otherwise by the Line Manager. The role may require incumbent to work outside of normal hours, Public Holidays & Weekend as and when required by the study especially for follow-ups of the study participants.

    Overview of Duties

    • Implement the CTU Satellite Sites studies protocol, including evaluation of the role of tongue swabs to optimize TUTT implementation - an observational study (TUTTPLUS) and Opti-DOR study recruiting HIV newly diagnosed patients.
    • Recruit participants from the clinics and refer them to the nurse for consent.
    • Build and maintain relationships with DOH staff where participants will be recruited.
    • Collection and capture of data.
    • Carry out any other duties as directed by Line Manager

    Minimum Requirements

    • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent qualification.
    • Computer Literacy Certification (Microsoft Office Suite).
    • Fluency in English and IsiZulu

    Minimum Experience

    • Research experience in a clinical setting (hospital/clinic-based research)

    Required Skills

    • Basic counselling and interviewing skills.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
    • Knowledge of and experience in TB treatment and care 
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, flexible and a good team player.
    • Good problem-solving skills.
    • Well organized and possession of the ability to plan effectively and efficiently. 
    • Ability to work independently and show initiative.

    Advantageous

    • Valid South African driver's license with a minimum of 2-years driving experience.

    Junior Data Scientist - Durban

    Description

    Dr. Emily Wong’s lab is looking for a motivated junior data scientist to join our rapidly growing Data Science Unit at AHRI and to play a vital role in overseeing and organizing population, clinical, and biological data across the transdisciplinary scientific studies in the Wong lab.

    With the support of a Senior Data Scientist, the incumbent will be responsible for:

    • The provision of data management support in the areas of data collection, storage, quality management, and archive and sharing.
    • Generating data types on pre-existing subsets of participants alongside internal and external collaborators.
    • Designing project specific tools necessary for each sub-project as well as documenting and organizing raw and processed data in the Wong lab
    • The design and development of data dashboards for operational and analytical use.
    • Leading the data management and database activities, working at all stages of the research cycle.
    • Developing data management service to reflect changes to regulatory requirements and to improve data quality and integrity, including writing relevant policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), and related guidelines.

    This post suits an enthusiastic individual with some knowledge of building studies on electronic data capture (EDC) systems and experience in relational databases, Structured Query Language (SQL) and programming. The individual must have a background in bioinformatics. The post-holder requires excellent technical knowledge, good organizational and time management skills, with problem-solving ability. Excellent communication skills are essential as the post holder will have to communicate with technical and non-technical colleagues.

    Requirements

    • BSc Hons in Data Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management, any database specialist degree, or a closely related subject

    Minimum Experience

    •  At least six months data management experience as a Junior Data Scientist, Junior Data Manager, or Junior Bioinformatician
    •   Some experience in data extraction and manipulation
    •  Some experience in working with complex and longitudinal databases
    •    Some experience with database development languages and software such as SQL, Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL etc
    •   Good skills in computer programming, with experience of at least one high level programming language
    •    If no BSc, a BTech or equivalent qualification plus 3 years’ experience as Research Data Manager or Data Scientist can be considered

    Senior IT Systems Engineer - Durban

    Description

    The purpose of this role will be to provide advanced level technical support, configuration and maintenance to all servers, network infrastructure, cybersecurity and other related technology throughout the organization. This is a position for a very experienced and highly senior technical person.

    Overview of duties

    • Responsible for the day-to-day operational support for server, storage and network infrastructures
    • Builds, patches, tests and deploys complex IT systems and platforms.
    • Planning and implementing changes to infrastructure with the goal of enhancing performance or stability.
    • Performs complex storage and server data backup, data migration and disaster recovery operations.
    • Network Security (firewalls, ACLs, Policies etc.) and overall Cybersecurity planning, maintenance, monitoring and ongoing improvements
    • Performs complex software and operating system upgrades.
    • Configures security settings or access permissions for groups and individuals.
    • Provides advanced technical support by troubleshooting problems related to network or backend IT systems.
    • Documents complex procedures and troubleshooting procedures related to systems, networks,
    • software and hardware.
    • Performs configuration and maintenance of office and/or production software.

    Requirements

    • A degree or national diploma in Information systems or related field.
    • Industry recognized IT related certification portfolio and technology streams such as MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (Focused on Server and Cloud), MCSE: Productivity (Focused on O365, Teams Admin, Exchange Online), VMware and Network certifications.

    Minimum experience

    • 8+ years’ experience in IT field
    • At least 5 years’ advanced experience in managing virtualized servers, clusters and VDI installations and Storage appliances.
    • At least 5 years’ advanced experience in managing complex LAN, WAN, SDWAN and Cloud managed networking.
    • At least 5 years’ advanced experience in managing Server Operating Systems (Windows and Linux) and Active Directory.
    • At least 5 years’ advanced experience in Security Vulnerability and Patch Management, Email security.
