    College Counsellor

    ROLE SUMMARY:

    • To adopt an aspirant view to students in their care, promoting the general progress and well-being of individuals and of any class or group assigned to them.
    • To create a positive learning environment and motivate students to achieve their full potential.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • To lead individual and group counselling, as well as crisis intervention within the College community. 
    • To report to the DSL any issues and concerns of required notification.
    • To record all interventions according to best practice.
    • To ensure the senior leadership team is aware of the student climate (issues and concerns within a specific grade, for example).
    • Collaborate with the senior and middle leadership teams to develop a care-full and learning environment wherein students feel safe and listened to.\To be fully aware of issues affecting our youth.
    • In so far as communicating trends and latest research, to contribute to the continuous professional development of our team.
    • Facilitate the student portfolio committed to supporting the wellbeing of their peers.
    • Contribute to the weekly College ReddAhead newsletter.
    • Organise guest speakers and presenters as relates to the field of student care and support.
    • Be an active contributor amongst a dynamic team

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

    • Lives Passion with a Plan applied over Time
    • Able to set clear expectations and stretching goals
    • Adaptable style that drives for high performance
    • Excellent preparation and planning
    • The ability to engage, interest and listen to teenagers
    • A minimum of three years’ experience as a counsellor of teenagers 
    • Appropriate legal right to work in a South African school
    • University degree or diploma in an appropriate subject
    • Be registered with the HPCSA or the SACSSA.
    • Exude a passion for serving the health and wellbeing of others.
    • Have a strong connection with teenagers.
    • Be energetic and proactive.
    • Exhibit strong communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Enjoy supporting and contributing to the success of teams.
    • Live with high standards and seek consistent improvement over time.
    • Have excellent administration skills and a ready attention to detail.
    • A passion for the role of Counsellor
    • A positive attitude to change
    • A continuous improvement mindset
