College Laboratory Technician at Woodridge College and Preparatory School

Skills & requirements:

• Relevant qualification in the Physical Science/Life Science field would be advantageous;
• Previous experience gained working within a Physical Science/Life Science Laboratory;
• Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, materials, chemicals and relevantsafety and legislative requirements;
• Organisational and time managementskills and ability to work independently;
• Computerliteracy;
• Self-motivated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written);
• Strong planning, organising and administration skills;
• Problem solving ability;

• Requisite clearance certificates.

Duties and Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

Organising preparation areas and classroom laboratoriesfor laboratory experimental purposes:

• Assisting in planning and running of practicals;
• Meticulously setting up equipment and materialsfor practicalsin advance;
• Test-running practicals;
• Being present in the laboratory during practicals.

Ensuring good housekeeping practices are in place:

• Ensuring the prep room and laboratories are tidy at all times;
• Ensuring that all equipment isrepaired and maintained;
• Undertaking general housekeeping of chemicals, biologicalsamples and otherresources;
• Assisting with tidying up after practicals;
• Washing and packing away materials and equipment;
• Ensuring safe handling,storage and disposal of hazardous materials

Controlling stock, including sourcing and ordering of laboratory

• equipment and chemicals;
• Ensuring safety proceduresin the laboratory are adhered to,
• including evacuation procedures;
• General administration.
