    Compliance Officer

    Job Description

    The Compliance Officer is responsible for the identification, assessment, monitoring and effective reporting of compliance matters as well as establishing systems and processes to ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory and Experian policy requirements impacting our Africa operations. The Compliance Officer will be responsible for delivering the Compliance Management Program elements into all African markets.

    What you’ll need to bring to the party

    • Extensive knowledge and experience of operational regulatory requirements applicable to the African markets;
    • Experience in identifying, establishing, maintaining, monitoring and analyzing changes in the regulatory universe;
    • Design and implement systems and controls to ensure Compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations impacting on the organisation;
    • Devise, implement and monitor compliance policies, standard operating procedures and assist in the training of such policies;
    • To develop action plans to respond to regulatory changes and outcomes from compliance reviews and address gaps;
    • Testing and assessing compliance to policy and procedure across the business;
    • Monitor and report on non-compliance incidents;
    • Provide support and advice to the business relating to compliance requirements and drafting of policies and procedures;
    • Responding to and/or assisting in investigations from external or internal parties;
    • Drive compliance awareness and encourage a compliance culture across the business;
    • Assist in all internal and external audits, examinations and/or investigations, including annual or ad hoc regulatory audits;
    • A passion for Compliance and applying it in a business conducive manner.

    What you’ll be doing

    • Ensure that the business complies with the product development and approval process;
    • Identify gaps in existing processes or arising from new regulations and ensuring that the correct remedial actions are put in place to close these gaps
    • Formulating and monitoring the implementation of compliance risk monitoring plans, including conducting formal compliance reviews as required;
    • Regularly assess the effectiveness of control systems and recommend improvements
    • To monitor and compile reports on regulatory risks for reporting to the Africa Risk Management Board (ARMB);
    • Employing agile methodologies for workload prioritisation, tracking and ensuring maximum value is derived
    • Supporting the production and delivery of the Africa Compliance Annual Plan.
    • Manage the Compliance relationship with the local Management team, ensuring the function is a trusted partner
    • Responsible for producing monthly high quality ‘state of compliance’ reporting.
    • Formulating and monitoring the implementation of compliance risk monitoring plans;
    • Monitor and report on changes to legislation impacting the business of the organisation;
    • Analyzing legislation (current and new), conduct legal impact analysis of new legislation and assist with the drafting of training material and writing articles;
    • Ensuring the effective implementation of the organization’s Compliance framework;
    • Draft Compliance Risk Control Assessments for all legislation that applies to products and/or services offered by Experian;
    • Designing, documenting and implementing compliance processes, procedures and manuals and compliance risk management plans;
    • Roll-out compliance policies to the business as required;
    • Develop and deliver compliance-related training material and training plans;
    • Identifying and reporting of compliance risks, breaches and incidents within area of responsibility;
    • Drive compliance awareness and encourage a compliance culture across the business

    Qualifications

    • Relevant Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma is essential
    • Compliance Certification would be an advantage
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a compliance environment including experience in identifying, creating, establishing and maintaining a regulatory universe, creating a monitoring programme, drafting of policies, implementing and performing compliance training is essential
    • Demonstrate technical knowledge and understanding of the latest industry processes and regulations e.g. Applicable country Credit Acts, POPIA etc. and best practices is essential
    • Experience in a credit bureau/financial industry environment and cross border compliance function
    • Experience in overseeing the implementation of Compliance management frameworks across multiple jurisdictions will be an advantage
    • Experienced in working in a matrix environment will be an advantage
