We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the execution of road and highway infrastructure projects in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all on-site construction activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with South African regulatory requirements and client specifications.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in road and highway construction projects in South Africa, with a strong understanding of SANRAL standards, engineering contract administration, and construction site management.
Key Responsibilities
Communicate construction requirements and directives issued by the project management team to on-site supervisors responsible for the respective construction zones.
Monitor construction schedules and ensure project milestones are achieved within agreed timelines.
Ensure compliance with South African Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation by implementing effective site safety management systems and proactive risk prevention measures.
Promote a strong safety culture through regular inspections, toolbox talks, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with BBBEE requirements and applicable South African statutory and regulatory obligations.
Coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives to ensure smooth project execution.
Monitor workmanship, quality control, and material compliance to achieve project quality objectives.
Prepare and submit site progress reports, construction updates, productivity reports, and risk assessments to project management.
Identify project risks and implement mitigation measures to minimise delays, cost overruns, and operational disruptions.
Manage site resources efficiently, including labour, plant, equipment, and materials.
Support project planning, cost control, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout construction.
Education
BSc/BEng in Civil Engineering
National Diploma in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 6 or higher)
Qualifications & Certifications
Relevant professional registration certificates (ECSA registration or equivalent will be advantageous).
Valid driver’s licence.
Relevant Health & Safety certifications will be advantageous.
Experience
Minimum 10 years’ experience managing road and highway construction projects in South Africa.
Proven experience delivering major civil infrastructure projects.
Demonstrated experience working on SANRAL projects or projects executed in accordance with SANRAL specifications.
Strong knowledge of engineering contracts, construction methodologies, quality assurance, and site management.
