Data Architect at Blue Label Telecoms

JOB PURPOSE

• The Data Architect is responsible for designing and implementing the overall data architecture to support business processes and decision-making. This role involves creating data models, developing data strategies and data dictionaries, and facilitating data flow between systems and ensuring data integrity, security, and scalability across the organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Architecture Design

• Design and develop the overall data architecture, including data models, data flows, and data dictionaries
• Guide and assist with the development of data integration strategies in conjunction with the Integration COE
• Create, maintain and apply logical and physical data models to support business requirements using databases, data warehouses, data lakes and data pipelines
• Apply data policies, standards, guidelines, and best practices for data management involving data quality, security, privacy and governance

Data Strategy and Planning

• Develop, implement, and communicate data strategies that form part of the BLTS Strategy to support business goals and objectives
• Collaborate with business leaders to understand data needs and translate them into technical requirements
• Collaborate with data analysts, data engineers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand the data requirements and provide data solutions
• Create and maintain a data architecture roadmap to guide the organization’s data initiatives
• Research and evaluate new data technologies and trends to support data innovation and business growth

Guiding Data Integration and Management

• Guide and assist data integration solutions to ensure seamless data flow across systems
• Guide and assist ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data is accurately and efficiently transferred between systems
• Provide guidance to ensure data quality, consistency, and security throughout the data lifecycle including version control
• Guide and assist IT and database teams to implement and maintain data systems and infrastructure

Data Governance and Compliance

• Establish and enforce data governance policies, procedures, standards and best practises for data quality, security, and privacy
• Ensure data architecture complies with regulatory requirements and industry standards
• Monitor data usage and access to ensure compliance with data governance policies
• Articulate the benefits and advantages of the proposed solutions in a way that resonates with clients

Customer Centricity

• Coordinates contact with Business Partners as needed to assist with support activities
• Establish and maintain a positive professional relationship with Business Partners and customers
• Maintain regular and timely communications with Business Partners and customers
• Maintain strong working relationship with customers and Business Partners
• Work with customers and Business Partners to execute consistent service processes throughout the organization
• Establish a single point of contact for issue resolution and change management

EDUCATION

• Matric
• Bachelor's degree or in computer science, information systems, or related field

EXPERIENE

• At least 5 years of experience in data architecture, data modelling, data engineering, or related field
• Proficient in SQL and one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Scala)
• Experience with various data platforms and tools (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Hadoop, Spark, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
• Knowledge of data warehousing, data lake, and data pipeline concepts and architecture
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality, data security, and data privacy principles and practices
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills · Strong documentation skills and proficient with using MS Office Tools
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
