    Data Quality Specialist - EMEA

    Description

    WhereIsMyTransport is a globally distributed scale-up revolutionising the way public transport information can be understood and accessed in the Majority World. Using geospatial data collection, we untangle the mysteries of public transport networks - knowledge which, when shared, creates a more equitable society. Our product does something that no one has done before in the cities we operate in - that’s why we’re backed by some of the world’s most renowned mobility tech investors including Google and Toyota Tsusho.

    Data Quality Specialists play an essential role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our city datasets. You are the gatekeeper, serving as the final check before updated datasets go live on internal or external client platforms. You are passionate about improving access to public transport information and the geospatial industry, with the aim of producing the most complete and accurate representation of the city's public transport network. In this role, you'll be responsible for:

     

    Data processing:

    • Review information in the track overview and complete a "sense check".

    • Interrogate the geometry / shape of a track (raw GPS trace), and edit as required.

    • Check all quality of the data including the spelling and capitalization of written data and sense check the attributes for each track, (travel times, fares, etc.

    • Work with the Data Processing Manager and provide feedback on tracks processed and any discoveries or challenges faced.

    • Help adhere to a data processing plan. Manage time efficiently so that targets and deadlines are met.

    Data maintenance:

    • Update route attributes based on information provided through the Data Team's ticketing system.

    • Prevent the build-up of a backlog of data changes to be made.

    • Ensure the dataset is fully up-to-date and are timely uploaded or provided to the client.

    • Provide feedback on questions from clients and ensure investigated tickets are resolved timely.

    • Ensure updates are applied correctly and conforms to our Quality Standards.

    Geospatial data analysis:

    • Provide GIS support where needed by the Processing Manager.

    Innovation:

    • Testing data samples, our company app systems and tools.

    • Stay abreast of technology developments to enable your contributions on improving workflows, processes and tools.

    Requirements

    • Strong level of written and spoken English as well as your native language

    • Qualification in either Geography, Land Surveying, Cartography, Geographic Information Systems or Town Planning.

    • Strong GIS or other geospatial software experience.

    • Experience in data verification / quality assurance.

    • Good understanding of geospatial information, both technically and the industry.

    • Familiarity with Google Earth, Google Maps, Open Street Maps.

    • Strong spatial reasoning is a must, with a strong understanding of spatial data, including relationships and orientation between features on a map.

    • Ability to interpret geospatial maps and imagery.

    • Very good understanding of relational databases.

    • Experience in manipulation and analyzing of data, as well extracting of information from databases using SQL (Structured Query Language).

    • Skilled in using sound formulas and scripts in sheets to analyze and manipulate data, as well extracting information.

    Bonus:

    • Some team leading skills.

    • Familiarity with Office / Google Suite products (notably Excel and Google Sheets).

    • Project management experience.

    • Knowledge and good understanding of the workings and operations of informal and formal modes of transport.
