    Data Steward

    THE ROLE

    The Data Steward is a business representative who is ultimately accountable for determining, describing and enforcing the business rules, definitions and processes for collecting and ensuring the quality of data. For long-term success, this effort should be supported by the establishment of a cross-functional governance body (Data Stewardship Governance Committee) to ensure that data is managed as an asset.

     

    PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

    There are three core functions to a data steward and data quality role:

    • Governance - Data Stewards are responsible for establishing and managing data governance and quality processes in the territory by:
    • Running routine checks on data contribution and consumption
    • Reviewing processes performed by the DQ
    • Reporting data quality metrics to the SteerCo    
    • Lifecycle management - Data Stewards manage data collection, data enrichment and system entries. In particular:
    • Initial entity setup of data to be contributed to source GCD and GPD prior to approval and contribution
    • Review and approval prior to contribution
    • Ongoing management of the data following contribution
    • Ownership model – Data Stewards are responsible for management and maintenance of the following activities:
    • Maintain DQ level 1 reviews in the local MDM (or equivalent) system
    • Manage the consumption of source data by the local MDM (or equivalent) system
    • Manage the contribution of local MDM (or equivalent) system data to Source
    • Manage reporting and notifications
    • Support data disputes and resolutions with respect to the territory ownership

     

    KEY KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

    • Business knowledge: Data stewards must understand the business direction, processes, rules, requirements and deficiencies
    • Business-area respect: They need to influence business decisions and gain business-area commitments
    • Analysis: When faced with multiple options, they must examine situations from many angles
    • Facilitation and negotiation: They must facilitate the proponents of conflicting viewpoints to arrive at a mutually satisfactory solution
    • Communication: Stewards need to effectively convey the business rules and definitions and promote them with the business areas as well
    • Proven track record in a similar role
    • Project management experience in challenging and diverse work teams
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to add value, influence change, innovate, visualize and drive results
    • A good knowledge of PwC's risk management policies, independence rules and systems will be an advantage
    • Leadership qualities
    • Passion for process improvement
    • Solutions orientated
    • Ability to handle complexity and uncertainty
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of various teams are various levels
    • Ability and willingness to provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff members
    • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, PowerPivot, etc.), advanced SQL and advanced master data management
    • High attention to detail when performing analysis
    • Capable of communicating and collaborating with key business stakeholders in a professional and timely manner
    • Deep understanding of database technology, integration, and usage
    • Strong analytical skills, detailed and process-oriented
    • Ability to create and report on data metrics using visual representation
    • Ability to work as part of a team and drive results
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, or management information systems. 
    • Degree should include courses in statistics, management information systems, decision making, and communication. 
    • Database management, information security, project management, and data systems design would be advantageous 

     

    EXPERIENCE 

    • 8 -12 years of experience with data and complex data management
    • Experience in developing key documentation, user guides, and other necessary training materials
    • Experience in cross-training team members and key business users
