    Diesel Mechanic - Kathu

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • Monitors, maintains and repairs the diesel engines and generators on the mine to ensure continuation of effective business operations. 

    PURPOSE OF THE JOB

    • Monitors, maintains and repairs the diesel engines and generators on the mine ensure continuation of effective business operations.

    KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

    Financial Perspective:

    • Financial effectiveness
    • Considers costs and suggests cost saving ideas within the engineering function.
    • Escalates risks to supervisor.
    • Follows engineering standard operating procedures to prevent losses and damages.

    Internal Business Process Perspective:

    • Performs maintenance & repairs on diesel equipment and machinery
    • Investigates, diagnoses and performs maintenance and repairs on mine equipment and machinery according to maintenance requirements and standard operating procedures.
    • Performs inspections and produces reports on findings in accordance with the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
    • Reports and repairs all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery.
    • Develops, modifies, constructs and installs related equipment required for the safe operation of all engineering equipment.
    • Identifies and orders spares requirements according to company procedure.

    People Perspective:

    • Manages own performance in terms of agreed outputs.
    • Identifying performance and training gaps and discussing ways of cross-skilling and upskilling.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

    • Matric (Grade 12)
    • NQF Level 3 Red Seal trade certificate in Diesel mechanics.
    • Valid driver’s license

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATION/S

    • NQF Level 6 Red Seal trade certificate in Diesel mechanics

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

    • 3 years’ experience as a diesel mechanics (specifically on Cummins diesel engines).
    • Mining experience is preferential.
    • Experience on earthmoving equipment (Caterpillar, JCB) as well as support equipment (Grove mobile Cranes, Manitou telescopic Boom Handlers, JCB and Cat Skid steer loaders, etc) will be advantageous
