    Engineering Manager

    Job Description    
    Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) has an exciting opportunity in our Manufacturing department. We are looking for talented individual with relevant skills and experience for an Engineering Manager role, which is based in Pretoria. The successful candidate will report directly to the Manufacturing Manager in Pretoria.

    Key purpose to provide leadership, guidance and co-ordination in the execution of:

    • Engineering design & construction in line with the Site Master Plans;
    • Management of Environmental aspects in line with NEMA:
    • Risk management for plant equipment, machinery and employees and;
    • Asset management systems and work practices;

    With the Outcomes of:

    • Plant reliability;
    • No harm to people, assets or environment;
    • Legal compliance as defined by the OSH Act and other relevant legislation and;
    • Continuous improvement of cost and resource usage with a focus on improved environmental stewardship.

    Interaction within and outside of the company as well as the nature and purpose of the interaction can be described as follows:

    • Operates within the Senior Management team as an SME for Engineering at the plant.
    • Has Line Management & legal GMR2.1 Accountability for all Utility, Service and Built Environment Functions at the site – GMR2.1 accountability extends to all warehousing and logistics infrastructure on site.
    • Has GMR2.1 accountability for the whole site., The Engineering Manager will ensure that legal compliance is achieved within the packing hall (and any other areas for which he / she does not have line accountability) through monthly Safety Meetings, weekly walk about, systems reviews and participation with the weekly engineering meetings where all asset management systems are reviewed.
    • Manages any Projects resources allocated to the site through a dotted line relationship and is the point of contact for Projects Planning and execution for all site projects with the Central Projects Team.
    • Has a dotted line management accountability to the Risk Manager, Business Systems Coordinator and Quality Managers on site as he / she is accountable for Safety, Health and Environment according to the OHS Act and NEMA.
    • Operates within centralized engineering governance structures and as such is the point of contact for the Centralized Engineering Functions.
    • Is the site lead for External stakeholder engagement with relevant bodies impacting on supply and services to the Plant, e.g. Municipality / Utility Providers, Department of Labour & Local Business Forums.
    Key Duties & Responsibilities    
    Key Output and Accountabilities :

    • As the appointed Competent Engineer for the Site, as defined by General Machinery Regulations 2.1:
    • Ensures that all site teams work in line with requirements of OSH Act & regulations, National Environmental Management Act and Coca-Cola KORE requirements in terms of risk and environment.
    • Maintains a safe, healthy and risk-free work environment for the site, not just areas where they have line accountability.
    • Ensures that people are trained to an appropriate level of competence as defined by the OSH Act for all machinery on site through our training systems and risk assessments.
    • Leads and is the sponsor of the Risk Management Programme for the site, encompassing systems, site safety meetings, risk assessments and behavioural safety.

    Engineering Change Management, Projects & Site Master Planning

    • Manages engineering change control, projects execution and modification of plant equipment;
    • Leads engineering projects in conjunction with the Manufacturing and Technical Team to ensure efficient and responsible investment of Capital;
    • To ensure conformance to specifications and standards.
    • Owns the content and execution of the 5 Year Capital Plan
    • Drives the Sustainable development agenda for the site with the following outcomes:
    • Own and drive an improvement plan for the site with the Central Sustainability and Engineering Manager, for optimizing the usage of Water and Energy for the site through improved practices and controls as well as technology deployment.
    • Own and drive an improvement plan for the site with the Central Quality Team, for reducing waste and improving waste recycling rates for the site through improved practices and controls as well as technology deployment.

    Takes overall accountability for Asset Management for the site with the following outcomes:

    • Ensures asset management excellence in terms of daily execution for the Utilities and Facilities departments
    • Ensure best practice deployment of asset management for the site by driving GSE scores, talent management of technical staff and compliance to the company Asset Management Processes at a policy and systemic level
    • Actively audit compliance to the asset care programmed across all site departments

    Drives Productivity as the Site Focused Improvement Champion

    • Manages productivity through working on opportunities to minimize waste and control fixed and variable costs
    • Optimizes processes through supporting and implementing continuous improvement opportunities and optimizing process capability
    • Analyze plant reliability performance and make recommendations for improvement Supports and implements WCM best practice

    Leads Site & Utilities Team and Participates as a Senior Leader in all key site issues

    • Ensures a level of excellence around utility facilities and site maintenance
    • Manage Departmental Budget / Finances.

    Judgement and decision making :

    • Strong leadership, management, and diagnostic ability
    • Assesses risk situations in terms of the law and makes the ultimate decision as to whether or not the plant can run and what risk mitigating actions are adequate if there is an issue.
    • Has sign off authority on procurement decisions for the site in terms of technical requirements and evaluation of supplier proposals.

    • Good understanding of OSH Act and Regulations

    • Broad packaging line engineering knowledge, Compressed air systems, boilers, and Refrigeration systems.

    • Knowledge of additional Legal regulations, Engineering Standards and other SABS standards (e.g. Carbon tax, waste laws, NEMWA /emissions laws, legal register, SANS 10142, SABS 400 Building Regulation, ASME code etc.)

    Skills, Experience & Education    
    Qualifications:

    • B-Tech / BSc Mechanical /Electrical/Electromechanical (Not N6)
    • GCC/OSH Act exam (Factories)
    • Other post graduate qualifications in business / leadership an additional advantage

    Experience:

    • 5 Years of technical experience in a leadership capacity in a FMCG engineering environment
    • Broad knowledge of systems and engineering processes, packaging operations, utilities, risk management;
    • Experience at a leadership level over asset care systems / programs;
    • SAP maintenance system, maintenance work instructions;
    • SAP procurement system;
    • Experience at a leadership level;
    • GMR2 Appointee for the Large plant and Experience with SHEQ (OHS Act no.85/1993 and Quality);
    • Computer literate;
    • Experience with Project management, with a successful track record of project and capital budget execution
    • Has developed the asset care programs and budgets, and managed spares inventory levels and policies;
