    Trackless Fitter

    The Trackless Fitter is accountable for the installation and maintenance of On-reef Tips, Impact breakers, Ventilation doors and other on-reef (fixed) infrastructure. The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).  A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Mechanical Trade Certificate
    • Minimum 3 years’ fitting and turning experience on underground pumps, valves, impact breakers, tips, gearboxes, hydraulic motors, etc.
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
    • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards
    • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
    • Conduct maintenance activities on underground pumps, valves, impact breakers, tips, gearboxes, hydraulic motors, and other fixed plant infrastructure equipment
    •  Carries out a pre-use inspection by using a checklist and physically testing the equipment, takes relevant corrective action and reports to Supervisor.
    • Read and comprehend hydraulic drawings according to standards, procedures, and specifications
    • Collaborate with service providers to carry out external inspections on equipment, as and when required
    • Performs any other activities as per instruction necessary for the effective completion of work such as complete job cards and provide feedback to the Foreman at the end of shift, perform handover to the oncoming team member
    • Adhere to planned maintenance schedule to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)

    Driver Forklift UG

    The forklift operator is responsible for the safe and effective transport of material cars to and from the shaft in accordance with standard operating procedures

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Forklift driver license
    • Valid driver license
    • At least 2 years’ experience as Forklift operator in a mining environment
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Established personal safety delivery record
    • Strong inter and intra-team collaboration skills 
    • Sound spoken and written English communication skills
    • Completion of a machine appreciation awareness programme (O4R/M4R or equivalent)
    • Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
    • Established problem-solving skills

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Maintains Safety, Health and Environmental practices according to standards and procedures
    • Does a pre-use inspection on this equipment by means of a checklist and report deficiencies to supervisor
    • Performs basic maintenance on equipment e.g. top up engine oil, water and hydraulic oil, check for oil leaks and clean equipment according to standards and procedures
    • Performs end of shift procedures according to standards and procedures e.g., parks the forklift at the designated area, cleans equipment and reports to supervisor
    • Performs any other activities necessary for the effective completion of his/her work
    • Operates the forklift to safely transport material cars to and from the Shaft in accordance with standard operating procedures
    • Assessing weight of loads to be lifted
    • Adhering to Surface Traffic Management plan as set out by the mine standard

    Underground Fitter - Westonaria

    The Shaft Fitter is accountable for the execution of general and specialist winder and associated installation maintenance, repairs and project work.  The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned in all surface areas and maintenance on Winders to ensure safe and effective operation of the shaft winder system i.e. personnel, material and ore conveyances and haulage. A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12 or equivalent
    • Relevant Fitter Trade Certificate
    • Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Fitter with at least 5 years’ winder maintenance experience, on both Blair Multi Rope (BMR) Winders as well as Double and Single Drum Winders and associated equipment
    • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

    Key Competencies:

    • Accomplished personal safety track record
    • Conversant with the MHSA and the Minerals Act regulations in terms of shafts, winders, conveyors etc
    • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
    • Independent, proactive thinker with the ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
    • Advanced proficiency on mechanical maintenance of winder installations
    • Extensive knowledge and experience of winder control and mechanical systems
    • Demonstrated experience with legal inspections of mechanical installations
    • Proven track record of production achievements

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Promote and develop team work to become an effective team member
    • Ensure that condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted effectively
    • Timely response to breakdown management, conduct appropriate root cause analysis and diagnosis
    • Repairing breakdowns as they occur and assisting with expansions and construction of new equipment or installations
    • Responsible for winder control and mechanical systems, including but not limited to: Compressors, Shaft and Shaft Station control systems, updating of all mechanical documentation
    • Exercise sound expert judgment with regards to repair versus replacement versus upgrade of components
    • Align with planned maintenance schedules, including maintenance of relevant records for all winder and mechanical equipment and installations in area of responsibility
    • Perform all activities according to instructions, procedures and engineering needs
    • Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure
    • Create and maintain job cards according to the SAP system and requirements
    • Work overtime, standby and be available for call-outs should the need arise

    Admin Clerk Security

    The Admin Clerk is responsible for effective administrative support to the South Deep Protection Services department which includes general admistrative activities and the management of confidential and sensitive material.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Be in possession of a Grade 12 or NQF L4 equivalent qualification
    • 3-5 years’ experience in an administrative role preferably within the mining or industrial environment
    • Proven experience in maintaining and administering confidential work outputs
    • Diploma or Advanced Certificate in office administration
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Office
