Engineering Manager at Oyster.com

The role

As an engineering manager at Oyster, you will be responsible for managing a team – or two small teams – of developers.

Location: Anywhere within timezones GMT-8 to GMT+3. While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster's positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever.

You will

• Recruit, hire, lead, and grow one or more engineering teams.
• Build a supportive, egoless culture focused on collaboration, open communication, and valuing outcomes over output.
• Live by, and champion, our values to make the team excellent to work in and work with.
• Encourage active participation in all phases of the project lifecycle, share essential context with the team, remove blockers for the team, and provide visibility to stakeholders.
• Partner directly with Product and Design to deliver high quality projects and experiments predictably.
• Continuously improve and optimize team processes to improve productivity.
• Grow and sharpen your team with hiring, performance reviews, mentoring, and helping plan career growth.
• Champion good practices within your team to improve the product, tooling, team, and processes. Ex. development patterns, security-minded thinking, tech debt management, TDD, iterative thinking.
• Improve global hiring for the world by working cross-functionally with Product, Design, Operations, Finance, Legal, and more.

• Have prior experience managing one or more teams, ideally in a hyper-growth environment.
• Have several years of software development experience.
• Have successfully worked with geographically distributed teams.
• Thrive in a collaborative and asynchronous environment involving multiple stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Excel with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, while having the ability to dig into technical details to inform decisions.
• Enjoy working with a diverse set of individuals from various countries, backgrounds, and areas of expertise.
• Have excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
• Are interested in helping businesses hire globally, making the team member experience a pleasure for everyone, and helping the team and world learn to work in a simpler, more asynchronous way.
